Nine Inch Nails Pretty Hate Machine

I meant to say that HLAH would be classic rock if it were played with the usual guitars; instead, it has synths, and because of this, many mistakenly label it as "industrial." However, Reznor is at least honest about this and rejects the label. Unfortunately, I wasn't listening to music in '89, but I understand what you mean: one must evaluate the work in its time. If "Trans Europe Express" by Kraftwerk came out today, it would be seen as crap; instead, it was released in '77 and is a masterpiece. Now, I don't want to and can't judge "Pretty Hate Machine" (which I haven't listened to) but only "Head Like..." which I find to be a banal song dressed up in the technology of the time. I've always hated "hyper-vitaminized pop" tracks, meaning the simple, banal, linear verse-chorus-verse played and sung and produced as if they wanted to break the world, with that rebellious bad-boy attitude that I truly find out of place when applied to these mainstream chart schemes. To this song, I prefer "The Fragile" entirely, boring and pompous, but at least not poppy with nihilistic aspirations. I find that the DM have almost never fallen into this contradiction.

And the hooded child in the video was filmed by Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box."

Great track, the Cure's "Disintegration" will learn a lot from this.

For me, being Venetian, I burst out laughing at the first sentence.

A still captivating film despite its 85 years. The Herzog remake is nice as well. Honestly, I didn't know it would be so hard to find.

In "Freak Like Me," rather than sampling Gary Numan, they took the music from "Are Friends Electric?" as is and sang over it. Anyway, the one-half-Irish/one-half-Filipino is indeed a stunning babe.

I think "Caligari's Mirror" was well sculpted by Sonic Youth, especially the central-final instrumental part with that trembling guitar... it seems to me that one of their tracks on "Evol" had a very similar part (maybe it was "Shadow of a Doubt" if I'm not mistaken).

An actually hallucinatory and mind-bending album that expertly combines experimentation and noise with easy-listening melodic elements, which instead of reassuring the listener only serve to make everything even more disorienting and grotesque. Among my favorites are the dub experiment "Thriller!", the boozy "Drinking Wine Spodyody" (which will inspire the "Der Rauber Und Der Prinz" by "my" D.a.f.), and the love song between the depressed and the lobotomized in "Codex": I think about you all of the tiiiiime....
