THE REVIEW

Hello everyone, for those who don't know, this is the follow-up to the review of "Atmosphere." This maxi single was also released in 1980, after Ian Curtis's death and the release of Closer, but before Atmosphere. This single indeed contains tracks excluded from Closer, including the masterpiece and heart-wrenching song "Love Will Tear Us Apart" in two different versions: one is the famous version later included in subsequent collections and the other is shorter and faster, which I believe has never been reissued due to its lesser appeal.

On the first side of this maxisingle, we find the definitive version, the one where you can admire the splendid video, whose original version had been mixed differently with the overdubbing of Ian's voice over a live-recorded base. The song you surely know is splendid, the use of the synth is truly spot-on, as it makes the song even more poignant, the bass completely replaces the guitar in executing the riff (if it can be called that), played by Ian himself in the song, it's almost unnoticed even in the bridge and introduction. The song is perhaps the best of the band, for both its unbeatable melody and its fascinating and heartbreaking nature. Below, I include the translation.

Joy Division

Joy Division were an English post-punk band formed in the late 1970s (Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris). They released two studio albums, Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980). After the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis in May 1980 the remaining members later formed New Order.
