But I do give him an audience! Good job pointing it out to me—I had no idea!

I remember it being very beautiful. Bitter and resigned. And therefore very beautiful. How cool you are reviewing these films. Well done! Can you tell me the titles of some interesting anime you've seen recently?

Ah! Many have recommended Elfen Lied to me among Japanese animated series, which must be quite heavy on psychological violence and the terrible things that human beings do to a poor alien held captive who then escapes. I've had it on my watchlist for about 27 years, but I've really heard a lot of good things about it.

Well, I, on the other hand, have a few tiny reservations about Paranoia Agent (of which I even have the original box set! and which you can still find all over YouTube). There are tons of cool stuff and some things really had me hooked (ever since I watched it, my use of the adverb "first of all" has skyrocketed...), but it's also what might leave you the most bitter taste in your mouth. Because you think: if Kon blew my mind with a feature film that lasts an hour and twenty, just imagine what he could do with an entire series... And in part that's true, but in my opinion, by the end, you can feel a bit too much the weight of what's left unexplained.

Among other things, browsing through the catalog of Mad House (the production house where Kon worked), one can find some interesting titles, not exactly close to his style, his way of storytelling, and the themes he cared about, but still very enjoyable, like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time or Summer Wars, Vampire Hunter. There was also a Patlabor film (which are usually very interesting, but I can't remember which one it is...).

Kon was astonishingly skilled. And it’s remarkable how his films always manage to make you “play along.” It doesn't matter if you don’t fully understand what you’re watching; you never feel like you're being made a fool of, but rather you accept it as something intangible and, in some way, believable, which can be sweet (as in Millenium Actress) or tragic (as in this case). Even a comparatively lesser work like Tokyo Godfathers becomes a gem in his hands. To this day, he remains an unparalleled author in dealing with themes of dualism and the confusion between what happens in reality and what occurs only in the minds of the characters.

I hope the sports prosecutor has opened a file against the author of the portrait on the cover...

It's a "weird" album in the sense that there are some truly inspired moments and really intense, dark, fascinating atmospheres. But then they throw in some poorly crafted sounds, some solutions that are a bit lame, and something that feels almost "sloppy," thrown in just for the sake of it... In my opinion, there are tensions within the band, like there's one super talented guy with brilliant ideas, and the others kind of weigh him down. But they've been friends for years, and he doesn't want to come off as a jerk, so he spends his nights dreaming of a beautiful album that he has in his head and in his hands, but that no one will ever get to hear. What a load of crap...

"Everything is unreal, unresolved, irresponsible, watered, and unreasonable." Right. Not like in the Old Testament, where everything is real, resolved, responsible, dry, and reasonable. The dumbest criticism I've heard about this film is the "lack of realism" (especially regarding the story of the Transformers) and the little fidelity to the sources, namely a fucking sacred book written by who knows who, who knows when, in which we are told that all species of animals/plants/minerals and all the fakes of the Punisher in this world were created in seven days by a guy called "Word" who can do everything except prevent two nudists from eating an apple... Nothing to say: it could have made a historical film, not a laughing matter.

One of the movie review sites I follow (Spiatati.it) gave it a 10/10. If we add Johansson's full frontal, I already have at least 4 good reasons to go see it.
