This "festival" is yet another demonstration of the fact that to bring more than 10-15 thousand metalheads to one place, you still need the same, more or less battered groups. The only other "metal" group (note the quotes) that attracts a decent crowd (but still not that many) are Tool, who release an album every 6 years, and laughing and joking, have been around for 20 years too. It’s true that metal has evolved. It’s true that Neurosis (as well as Mastodon and their fellow musicians) are amazing. But they are not mass phenomena like these old-timers still are. There hasn't been a real generational turnover. We are dead and still don’t know it...

At the time of purchase, my trusted bookseller described it to me like this: "It's not a bad book, but if he had included half of the things, it would have been definitely better." This phrase stuck with me because it really well describes one of the main flaws of this book: the urge to overdo it. Mari attended the Holden school by Baricco, and I think he has retained some of that desire to impress (at all costs) typical of his mentor. Moreover, an outrageous number of pages are dedicated to Anina (who is none other than Garibaldi's wife: to date, one of the most boring and unpleasant characters I have ever "met" in a book), while at one point the author seems to completely forget about Lisander (whose actions, on the contrary, had quite intrigued me), even dismissing a decidedly important event with a 15-line stanza... A bit of a pity.

I apologize for the 1 in the review, which inadvertently slipped out while sending the second comment... Thankfully, it shouldn’t count towards the average. Just like this other 5, after all... :)

P.S.: this circus of encore calls (but where?!?!?) has really worn me out. Even the same groups don't believe it anymore; they almost seem embarrassed to do these little acts. A few months ago, I was watching the Arbouretum: there would have been around fifty of us, and when the band finished playing, a good part headed to the bar. Those who dared to shout "out! out!" were at most 5 or 6. After 30 seconds, the band managed to come back, played another song, and shortly after gave a definitive goodnight. Ridiculous.

Very beautiful page. I would have loved to be there, but I was busy a few kilometers further south getting my ankles eaten by mosquitoes. However, a friend of mine, a musicologist, music lover, and musician was there: he really liked it, even though he told me the bass was a bit too high and there were a few little errors here and there. Reading your review, I think a nice "sti cassi" fits perfectly.

To be honest, your latest reviews seemed a bit too "impressionistic" for my taste, but they remain great pages and really manage to pique my interest. And then you made me discover that the stuff I've always called "what the hell happened?!?" is technically called clipping, so well done! I listened to the album. Nice, but I think it requires time, equipment, and a mood that I probably will never have to be fully appreciated... Plus, I fear that such low frequencies could unstick my lungs, and that’s really not ideal! :)

Watched recently: I really liked it a lot. Surreal and poetic. Maybe not my favorite of Anderson, but a great film.

I would have said that in the end they looked like The Heads! I’m so regretful for not having bought the CD. I probably wouldn’t have had the money for the gas to get back home, but I’m still incredibly regretful.

Seen live last night in the company of my favorite Alexuccio. Paradoxically, the problem was the exact opposite of what was described in the review: they probably had some issues with the sound levels at Magnolia, because just like what happened at MiOdi, the levels were really low again last night. We were in, I don’t know... 7-8 rows back and we could talk comfortably. Following Alex's advice, I'm listening to this album right now and from the PC speakers, it sounds ten times louder and more overwhelming than it did last night. What a shame. Anyway, great band: the guitarist is my new post-adolescent idol, he really puts in the effort while staying stylish, and in the last song, he totally lost it, stripped the guitar strings... in short, it was a great mess. And the album doesn't seem bad at all! Well done, everyone!

To tell the truth, I don't know exactly what time they played: I arrived around 8:30 PM and just managed to catch the Midryasi (whom I know personally and was eager to see). As for the rest, this edition was marked by at least questionable organization and sound/volume levels that left everyone a bit perplexed. The live performances took place on 3 different stages, but simultaneously! Basically, for every band you watched, you necessarily missed out on two others. On the main stage, the volumes were extremely low: during the EHG, you could easily talk a few meters from the stage without even raising your voice too much. If you moved a bit further away, all you could hear was a great chatter drowning out the instruments. I still love that place and bang my chest like a big ape thinking about how many awesome bands I've been able to see at Magnolia over the years, but... Well: the motto for the first edition was: "The festival of Italy that keeps the amplifier at 11." Well, this year there was little Italy to be seen and not even a shadow of an amplifier at 11. :)
