Enrico Ruggeri Gli occhi del musicista

@dj: you insist on comparisons that, in my humble opinion, hold up to a certain extent: Fossati has had an upward trajectory: his lyrics are much more and much better constructed, his harmonies much more complex (and in fact they are more piano-oriented than guitar-oriented; "anime salve" would have been inconceivable for the Fossati until the mid-'80s...)), while Dalla (whom I loved until "viaggi organizzati") has had an absolutely downward trajectory: his music has become increasingly banal (by his own admission, he writes on the computer and no longer at the piano...that says it all...) and the lyrics, the few he has written, mediocre. Ruggeri, however (voiceface is right), does not belong to the true outsiders. Kisses link rotto

@tom: I'm also completely on board here. Even though I have strong personal moments tied to Macramé, so my judgment might be slightly biased... (the discipline... perhaps, with a bit of adjective effort, is more beautiful). @dj: I agree with Tom. Start from "l'arcangelo." You can't not like it, trust me (if you like Alice, you're a bit of a pop music fan... come on...).

@dj: I don't entirely agree. Aside from objectively wrong things (Fossati goes on tour for every album, winter with a summer tail, always…), subjectively I believe his career has been constantly on the rise, at least up to "la disciplina della terra," which I consider an absolute masterpiece. In the last two albums, he has somewhat rested on (very high) laurels. Ruggeri, I repeat, is an excellent craftsman, with undeniable artistic and personal honesty. But he doesn't reach, alas, where he cannot go, and where (Tom is right) we hoped he would arrive in light of the eighties evidence… link rotto

absolutely indisputable technical skill. The rest is excellent music on the road, certainly not song art (not even American...: for that, look to other names). link rotto

yesyesyes: let's throw it away. Guys, but this pisquanone here is acting all artsy-fartsy...oh...do you realize? the banality of both his lyrics and his harmonies is always, I emphasize always, embarrassing. This, obviously, is just my opinion...

Regarding the quality of the person, and also the author, I believe there can be no doubt. As for the fact that, compared to other "historic" singer-songwriters, they suffer from an embarrassing lack of personality, I think that's also true. I believe it all comes down to this. @tom: to make the leap of "la pianta del the" you need to be Fossati, my dear, meaning you need to have a load more personality and, Enrico, don't take it the wrong way, be a bit more skilled too (but when has Ruggeri ever written anything like "anime salve" or "la disciplina della terra"? Come on...Ruggeri is excellent craftsmanship, Fossati is the art of songwriting). Kisses link rotto

Having read this review and, to be honest, I was completely convinced it was a fake, a joke... then I saw the other reviews from this person in question and, with the utmost respect, I was astonished by how varied the world is (whether it's beautiful, I don't know...). Surely, this young man's tastes are light-years away from mine, even unreachable at warp speed 9. Kisses.

Great "sense of the song" (which is a rare gift...), terrible manager of oneself, probably surrounded by idiots (a commodity far from rare...), unfortunately lacking the personality needed to make him a great singer-songwriter (something he could have easily been, and perhaps, to some extent, is). What a shame. When talking about Ruggeri, there’s always a sense of "waste," of missed opportunity... (true: he has done some brilliant things and others, like the recent TV appearances, embarrassing). link rotto

@marpado: completely agree. Problem (very thorny, there's a risk of being accused of racism...) but, aside from the great Battiato, where has the mass and quality music from the South gone? link rotto

@trick: on one hand it's true, on the other it's not: if you were 15-17 years old and a girl gave you your first blowjob while "confusa e felice" was playing on the radio... well... there’s a good chance you’ll consider it a masterpiece your whole life... even though, we know, that’s not the case... I, lucky me, was a musically precocious kid, buying cassettes of Police and Dire Straits. For me, they were the absolute best. Then, later on, I discovered the great albums, like... the Doors or the Stones, well before my adolescence, and I had the strength to find them better than all my must-haves. The generational problem, however, exists and it’s everywhere... if you think that in the magazine Rockstar, year 2000, among the top 10 albums of the millennium was "what's the story...." by Oasis... well... that says it all (and among the top 10 voices there was no Waits...)...... link rotto
