A truly hilarious and sharp review... but unfortunately, I have absolutely no desire to listen to this album (just like the previous ones), they are too caricatured and excessive. In the latest single, they even quote a line from Quicksand by Bowie (a whole different level of glam)... it’s too much!

What you're saying is basically true; in the previous album, Herbert's hand was incredibly heavy (I should get to know the best at this point!). And this new record, in fact, could easily have been made by Goldfrapp or Minogue (certainly in a worse way), but also Madonna (and it's likely that in the next one with Timbaland she’ll come out with something similar). However, this little "problem" of stylistic personality (not at all vocal or interpretative) probably stems from the fact that she doesn't know how to get "accepted" definitively by the general public anymore, and is therefore searching for the dance style that suits her best, accepting some compromises, like being a bit too blindly guided by acclaimed and established producers. But in the end, even in Moloko, she wasn’t the only main mind... it's really strange that she can't break through, too easy for music lovers in general and too refined for die-hard club/pop fans!?

Cute and very pleasant record, but alas, it doesn't manage to move me like their old albums did. For me, 3.5.

His tracks haven't disappeared; he just produced the new single by Seal (I can't recall the title right now) which, sonically, is much closer to Zoot Woman than to Confessions On A Dancefloor, but melodically, it's the typical Seal piece... so I'm not crazy about it!

I mean, it can't be me who loves this album giving you the lowest score! ;)

Nice (and friendly) review, an amazing and incredibly fun album, an inexhaustible collection of overwhelming and danceable hits... Stuart Price is brilliant both as a DJ and as a musician, Madonna better hold on to him (considering she owes the success of her last 3 tours to him as well)... in the meantime, I'm anxiously awaiting the third chapter of Zoot Woman, does anyone have any news about it?

Great record and she's a truly charismatic and sexy character, besides being a really talented vocalist. Upon release, I had snubbed it because the first single didn't convince me much... how wrong I was, this album is full of excellent songs accompanied by a refined and original sound. I'm looking forward to her new album coming out in a few days, but it seems to me that it will be more traditionally dance-oriented than this one...

The Red Shoes is not bad, indeed some tracks are remarkable (the title track, for example, I find excellent) and the vocals are always top-notch, but in my opinion, it has the issue of reiterating sounds and ideas that she has already extensively explored in the past, but without much creativity and, moreover, in a somewhat diluted and overly polished manner... it wants to be accessible at all costs (upon release, it will actually be her best-selling album in the USA) and then every now and then it comes up with some terrible '80s electronic arrangement that not only sounds dated today but, in my opinion, was already outdated in '93 when compared to other albums from that year. In short, it feels like a somewhat lackluster and unfocused record... she had other things on her mind during that period.
