No one knows why the Hanatarash engaged in such actions and especially why they insisted when their performance became truly dangerous and unreasonable: apparently, they were not satisfied unless at least one person was injured during the show. "In 1985, during a series of concerts 'dedicated to destruction,' Hanatarash used a bulldozer and Molotov cocktails to set fire to the building hosting their performance. They usually loved to throw pieces of glass and sheet metal at the audience and chase them around armed with drills and power saws. During a concert at Candy Hall in Osaka, Eye severely injured his thigh while wildly handling a circular saw."

"It is said that at the concerts [of Hanatarash] people had to sign a sheet declaring that they would hold the band harmless in case anyone suffered serious injuries or even died during their 'suicidal concert.' Initially, the band consisted of two people: Yamatsuka Eye and Taketani Ikuo. Yamatsuka had his head completely shaved and resembled an onion. Taketani, more presentable, worked at a construction site during the day, allowing him to bring home significant amounts of scrap, along with power saws and motor oil. Their 'concert' was, from beginning to end, an outright battle, with the audience looking on."
