Vinicio Capossela Il ballo di San Vito
Voto:
arturobandini - Vinicio Capossela performs quite well in what he does. He’s certainly not Tom Waits, but who is (if not TW)? Let it be said for him what S. Veronesi said about John Fante: there is in his writing an unrest similar to the hormonal upheavals of adolescence. And the dance of San Vito certainly alludes both to the illness that involves uncontrolled and sudden movements (and to the saint who should protect the sick) and to the unrestrained dance of San Vito Lo Capo... to be experienced at least once (both Vinicio live and the dance).

5 palettes for Socrates' comments. Here it's almost better than in his (hyperbolic) reviews.
Wings London Town

In a small town bar many years ago, a jukebox played the bass line of Goodnight Tonight, and I, who was only twelve, liked it a lot. Perhaps because of that, since then, even though I lean heavily towards the restlessness of Lennon, I could never "betray" brother Paul (who was also born on my same day). I saw him at Live8 carry U2 on his shoulders, man, what a guy, at his age!!
Miles Davis In A Silent Way

Miles almost always deserves a bow. And I give that bow here, a way to thank those who, like him, when they touched the ground (by hook or by crook), left nourishment for those who came after...
Prefab Sprout Steve McQueen
Voto:
Dear Socrates, what can I say! If Cruel (which was on the previous "Swoon") had been included, this CD would have earned six stars. If Gary Clark had provided the background vocals, it would have gotten seven stars, and so on... For me, Steve McQueen and the first album by the Style Council are unsurpassable (in that genre) and then, how many references to reading the comments. It’s quite something to see a name like dannywilson popping up in a review of Prefab, there’s something labyrinthine about it! The album was perfect, and it’s still perfect. I used to play When Loves Breaks Down, a bit clumsily, on the balcony of a house overlooking the sea to a girl I liked a lot, and I would get emotional during the chorus and almost lose my focus... now I’m really curious to know who you’re thinking about for after Ferragosto (I’ve rummaged through my records and have a couple of guesses...) regarding Del Amitri, I’m waiting for your attempts; if you give up, I’ll intervene in praise of the song they once wrote that still gives everyone goosebumps...

The CD, as they say, I 'spotted' at the retailer. It's just a matter of making the final effort and pulling out the copecks (it's not much, I'm not stingy at all). As for the question, don't worry dear Socrates. There aren't countless comments on your 'review appearances,' perhaps because you don’t engage in the voluntary "canizze" that instead happen around the watershed CDs (like the latest Coldplay release). With stubborn precision, you avoid applying the basic rules that any media operator uses to attract 'the masses' (sex, blood, money, etc.). You're sticking to these niche CDs on the verge of becoming something more... but we like you for this... but today enough with the compliments. Hello everyone and have a great weekend.

I don't know the album, but Socrates is (even) above his average: a beginning to remember (especially for the unflappable women...) I reserve the right to get the CD and review it as soon as possible...
Jovanotti Buon Sangue
Voto:
how many more times have we been trying to figure out if jovanotti will manage to come out of his shell of a young person afflicted by the syndrome of wanting to please every human?
how many more times with each of his releases have we gently grappled (as much as one can with jova) between those who thought he had really matured and those who condemned him without hesitation?
for how many more albums will we be called to do this?
for me, jova has a few good melodic intuitions, a good sense of rhythm, but for the rest, he fails to bring out anything truly credible... and despite everything, it seems to me that he takes himself too seriously without any reason... they're just little songs.
Steely Dan Pretzel Logic
Voto:
I have always liked Steely Dan... the first album I bought was "Katy Lied," the one with the horrible bug on the cover and ten great tracks on vinyl... I've always liked them for Donald Fagen's voice, for the up-tempos, for those background vocals with Michael McDonald, for Walter Becker's modern guitar, for those perfect arrangements that miraculously manage to avoid becoming "cloying." These days, I found an "early days" of Becker & Fagen at a stall with an amazing "Yellow Peril." Just to be cruel (even to myself), what do you think are the five best Steely Dan songs?
Suzi Quatro Can the Can
Voto:
Wow! What a performance! Could it be that my first true flame (met in a dark street in Vienna) had a lot of Suzi Q in her... I haven't listened to the record in ages (I haven’t been thirteen for a while)... and the rating for the album (what else can you call it?) is a bit low just because my story with the blonde was a tad stormy (could it have been otherwise?)...
