I don't really know why I decided to talk about an album, specifically a best-of, by KC & The Sunshine Band.
The group was formed in Florida (Sunshine State = Sunshine Band) in 1973 and is primarily built around two main figures, Harry Wayne Casey, who renamed himself KC, and Richard Finch, co-authors of essentially all their hits. Naturally, the multiracial collective would eventually expand to include about ten members.
In this best-of collection, which compiles 16 tracks from the golden era of disco music, spanning from 1973 to 1980, during which they rightfully claim to have played a leading role, you'll find in sequence tracks that made half the world dance at the time. Those who, like me, started taking their first dance steps in discos during that period cannot forget: That's The Way I Like It, Shake Your Booty, Keep It Comin' Love, Get Down Tonight, I'm Your Boogie Man, I Like To Do It, Boogie Shoes. It's no coincidence that this last track was included, and inevitably became famous, in a must-watch film of the disco genre, Saturday Night Fever. Trash? Maybe.
These are hugely famous tracks that everyone has heard at least once: on the radio, in some commercial, during a revival night, or from some aged friend who remains attached to that legendary Studio 54 period, and who hasn't felt the urge to jump onto the dance floor?

Sunny funk of decent craftsmanship for a good half of the tracks, that even now, almost thirty years later, are still enjoyed, while the rest of the collection hovers at levels not quite up to a best-of. Essentially a singles band, they do not boast albums to be passed down to future generations, so a compilation like this can be quite sufficient to optimally get to know the world of KC & The Sunshine Band.
When people criticized KC that his lyrics were somewhat repetitive and monotonous, he loved to respond that this way, people would remember the title of the song they heard really well, thus obviously aiding their commercial success. Today they would be called earworms, but how can you fault him?

I don't really know why I decided to talk about this album. Oh, yes! Now I remember. I bought it for 5 euros. Could it be that the quality-price ratio didn't disappoint me this time?

07   Queen of Clubs (03:18)

In every night club across the nation
She’s the life of the party, she’s a real sensation
She’s got style, y’all, she’s got class
She can groove it slow or move it fast
In the early evenin’ through the midnight hour
She keeps swingin’, she’s got super power

She’s the queen of clubs
She’s the queen of clubs

If you throw a party and she ain’t there, well, well, well, well
People let me tell you that your party’s nowhere
From city to city and coast to coast
She’s more than hip now, she’s the most
Up in the mountains, out on the plains
Down in the valley they echo her name

She’s the queen of clubs
She’s the queen of clubs

Here she comes - fine lady
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

She’s the queen of clubs - out in the valley
She’s the queen of clubs
She’s the queen of clubs ....

08   Get Down Tonight (03:10)

Baby, babe, let's get together.
Honey, hon, me and you.
And do the things, ah, do the things
That we like to do.
Do a little dance, make a little love,
Get down tonight.
Get down tonight.
Do a little dance, make a little love,
Get down tonight.
Get down tonight.
Baby, babe, I'll meet you,
Same place, same time.
Where we can get together
And ease up our mind.
Do a little dance, make a little love,
Get down tonight.
Get down tonight.
Do a little dance, make a little love,
Get down tonight.
Get down tonight.

Do a little dance, make a little love,
Get down tonight.
Get down tonight.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
Get down, get down, get down, get down,
Get down tonight baby.
