I read in the book dedicated to them (the one from Stampa Alternativa), which I went to dig out from the back of my library, that:... "CCCP is the acronym in Cyrillic characters for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; it's not an easy and light name to carry these days in these places, but it's ours. A year ago, when we decided to use this name, we were only driven by the desire to bring a bit of balance back to an Europe that is increasingly and solely pro-American. Let it be clear that the discourse is never political, except by consequence; it is aesthetic and ethical. We are pro-Soviet not because we are leftist, if we ever were, but because we are bound to the human experience by interests that do not exist and are not contemplated in the American empire, and so, little by little, sometimes with disappointment and always in an unpredictable way, as only truly lived experiences can be, we have become fascinated by the Soviet empire. (...) The Soviet empire concerns us (instead); it is also our history, our culture, our relationship with the world. FAITHFUL TO THE LINE because the line no longer exists and the game is open..." --- ... "Pro-Soviet because it confuses ideas and forces us to think, but also for purely musical reasons: we detest rock, we can no longer stand its emptiness, its omnipotence, its being the music of stupid youth, of unfortunate youth, of rebellious youth, of youth. We can no longer stand disco, funky, rap, colored lights, smokes, glitter, sequins, the bait-and-switch mirrors, always a bit new, always the same. We can't take it anymore of the waves, no-waves, and this mania for classifying, cataloging, dividing, uniting, which serves no purpose for music but to give voice to the ignorant and a bit of fame to the critics and journalists who invent them. We can no longer stand jazz, reggae, blues because we have no blackness to reevaluate, no new Zion to build; we are white Euro-cultured, we accept historical responsibilities and feel guilt, but this is not our music; it is the music of others. We enjoy it if it’s made by those who can and should make it, but not otherwise. We make modern European music, open to Arab and Asian influences because these are the two cultures close to us; because European culture clashes and meets with these two civilizations forever; because this is our cultural and physical background, thus we create pro-Soviet punk... etc." -- I’m a bit picky; when something itches me (in this case your quote from Bogus), I dig deep. For the record, I deemed it right to post the full text on "blackness." And I make no comments. IT'S BETTER.

Bogus is an interesting forum, really. I mean, it’s all very ambiguous. Could this be the true intent? Anyway, I stand firm on the fact that the iconography of the CCCP is simply UGLY. A tribute to pro-Soviet iconography? Yes, but ugly. Irony? Yes, but ugly. ANTI-AESTHETIC. With all my great respect (which is truly great) for you gentlemen Lindo and Massimo & Co.

mhhh Guevo, you’ve stepped into a swampy area. What do you know about our experiences? Drugs aren’t the same for everyone, you know?

I was also a bit taken aback by Ferretti's phrase posted by Bogus; I didn't like it at all. Upon reflection, the CCCP project was an attempt at a "Central European" project. Not really successful though; the whole thing got bogged down in the self-referential networks of 'excellent' yet truly egocentric personalities, not suited for cross-border "exchanges." That's exactly the point that itches me. In this sense, Firmin Murguza makes more sense than Ferretti, if you know what I mean. To divide this dividing group, sure, but only in Italy; you see, they’re not really that famous abroad. For instance, in this regard, the Negazione have done more than the CCCP, it seems to me.

I endorse emoellie and massimof. You paid him 'only' 5 euros, okay, but you gave him a nice review. How much is your time worth? :))

I'm curious about this group; I've heard good things about them. Can anyone tell me what record label they are signed to? And where are they from, Turin?

Dude, if you get a chance, read "Like a Wild Beast" or "Dog Eat Dog" by Edward Bunker, someone who really knew a lot about American prisons. I say 'knew' because he passed away a few days ago. Bunker was a great writer, I'm sure you'd like him, maybe you remember him, he was Mr. Blue in Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs"...

Oh my gosh. A very sad piece of news that I missed, but how?!? Bunker was great! Now I’m going to post a comment on the review of La 25esima Ora, I have to say it bluntly...
