the slide or not the slide? I have NEVER had issues talking about slide-guitar with American blues musicians, things like: "what brand is your slide-guitar" or "your slide-guitar is so beautiful." But talking about "slide-guitar" in English is different from discussing it in Italian. In English, we say slide-guitar when we want to speak about a guitar used with the slide technique (see the credits of countless blues records), and we say slide when we refer to the bottleneck (which is the tool, as we all know). RIGHT, it is correct to say that "slide" refers to both the tool and the technique. HOWEVER, translating this into Italian complicates matters, as often happens from the neutral English to the masculine-feminine Italian. In fact, it sounds terrible to say slide-chitarra, so colloquially (I stress colloquially) in Italian it's shortened to LA slide or LO slide, to distinguish the instrument from the tool. Absurd discussions over a mere translation issue. Well.
