Great, the definition of crazy is too generic (maybe I exaggerated when I said he was completely sane, but that was to counter this generalization). The fact is that in this case the character takes on an aura of "crazy-myth" or rather a "crazyoid" performer that I don't think is real. Giving the right definitions would downsize the character, wouldn't it? Psychiatry is precise. A suicidal person, masochistic and sadistic (as I already mentioned), a self-harmer, a sex maniac, a drug addict, a scatophiliac, a coprophagist, it doesn't take much to say what kind of man this was. And aware of being so. It's not a question of consistency. GG was like that and he died like that, he didn't strive to be consistent, he lived his phobias to the max because he was allowed to and it was approved by others (and how many!).

I didn't follow the discussion about the tuition fees very well, but Iā€™ll share a personal experience. I was 12 years old, and I was at a summer camp in the mountains with my sisters, a camp led by a so-called "modern" priest. Well, I had a crush on a certain Igor. My father, that miserable man, hadnā€™t paid my tuition, nor my sisters', after three weeks of being there. Igor's father and his brotherā€™s hadn't paid either. So one evening, before dinner, Father Walter gathered us allā€”me, Igor, and our brothersā€”and made us stand in front of everyone while they ate, and then sent us to bed fasting, without explaining why. All night I thought it was because Igor and I had secretly kissed and maybe someone had snitched on us... but the next day, I understood when our parents came to pick us up to take us home, not after a furious argument with Father Walter for having humiliated us in front of everyone... is this the kind of Catholic school you are talking about?

(udio, I see now that this morning I must have clicked on supersoul's comment, but it wasn't my intention... who knows?) Not nice, crazy, unfortunate, free, raw, animalistic, genuine, instinctive!!! GG Allin was a hardcore sadomasochist and aspiring suicide who was lucky enough to enter a music scene where anything was allowed; that was his freedom, period. The world is full of similar characters, all "free" even without an audience? GG was perfectly sane and knew exactly what he was doing. Justifying the atrocities of a character like this with ā€œhe was crazyā€ is too easy. And damn reassuring.
