Dire Straits Love Over Gold

I might be a bit childish, but the concert was truly beautiful. He played incredibly well and sang wonderfully. Initially, the sound seemed messy and confused, but it gradually improved. He played for almost 2 hours. The songs were evenly split between his solo career and those written during the Dire Straits era. He performed in this order: Why Aye Man (perhaps a bit too stretched out, but after all, the opening pieces of his concerts all follow the same thread), Walk Of Life (with an arrangement practically identical to the live version on On The Night, maybe a bit slowed down), What It Is and Sailing To Philadelphia (a bit disappointing compared to the studio versions), Romeo And Juliet (simply enchanting), Sultans Of Swing (which featured a rather elaborate initial solo and concluded with the classic final solo of 3 minutes). Then he played 3 songs from the latest album, but honestly, I don’t know the title, Boom Like That, and the much-praised Telegraph Road, which, despite its length (14 minutes), captivated the entire audience, who erupted into a 3-minute applause. Finally, Brothers In Arms and Money For Nothing (practically identical to the versions from On The Night) and last, So Far Away.

Sorry for the delay Torre Ste, but… are you referring to me? Do you want a review of his concert in Milan?

Nice and original. Exaggerated. But at least he had some ideas.

I was at Knopfler's concert on Friday night in Milan, and he played Telegraph Road: of all the versions I've listened to, Friday's was undoubtedly the best. The sound is enveloping, and the final instrumental section is delightful: certainly the most successful part. The fact that out of the 5 songs on the album, only Telegraph Road was included in his tour (while songs like Tunnel of Love and Private Investigations were left out) highlights the importance and the shift of Dire Straits with this track and the album as a whole. I believe the album should be divided into two parts: the first with Telegraph Road and Private Investigations, rather reflective and lengthy pieces (Knopfler was accused of being overly verbose with these two tracks); and the second, with the other three songs, having a rather similar sound. It is the album of Dire Straits' maturation, second only to Making Movies.

I really liked the album. The singer is incredibly talented and has a wonderful voice. It was very difficult to appeal to me because they're the peak of extravagance, but they succeeded. I hope they come back soon with something new. Anyway, I agree with those who wrote that this album can be tiring: even though I just got it and I like it a lot, I'm afraid it might wear me out soon.

Dear Hal, maybe now you expect me to defend myself... But NO. You are absolutely right. Rereading the review, I realized I didn't manage to convey the idea at all. As often happens when you have too many ideas in your head, in the end, you can't express even one. In fact, it's that power and sweetness in their songs and within their lyrics ("I can't do everything, but I'd do anything for you, I can't do anything except be in love with you") that made me fall in love with them. The power and intensity of their instrumentals at the end of Tunnel Of Love and Telegraph Road! The sweetness of Romeo And Juliet and Local Hero! Sultans Of Swing deserves a chapter of its own, but I don't think I'm really capable of properly defining the beauty of those "few" minutes of music. That's what makes you enjoy Dire Straits and this particular CD. That's why they were so well-liked. They had an incredibly broad target: the "rocker" and the "sentimental" person who can appreciate the same song without abandoning their preferences. Perhaps I've conveyed the idea better about this CD now rather than in the review. I'm sorry. Anyway, NoName is not a tribute to anyone. I've had many nicknames in my life, and I didn't know which one to choose. In the end, I decided to remain, let's say, "Anonymous."

Disappointing album compared to the previous one. Few insights and themes that are a bit too repetitive. Personally, I appreciate a few songs, like Mockingbird, but other than that, there isn’t much that stands out for its beauty. Lacking ideas. Unbearable burps and fake vomits in some songs. I was hoping for more from him as I consider him very talented: he is the only one who, in one way or another, has managed to stand out from the immense mass of pseudorappers.
