It's not a crime to talk about "phases" and "trends," far from it, but it can be excessive to get caught up in classifications, divisions, and subdivisions, even within the discography of individual artists. The search for the minutiae, in every circumstance, can very much undermine the immediacy of the music itself and its most genuine assimilation. The very distinction between "melodic minimal glitch" and "rhythmic exploration" is somewhat tenuous: "Glitch" can also be synonymous with "rhythmic exploration," as taught by various Mouse On Mars, Kid 606, and Autechre themselves. So, yes to boundaries, as long as they are few. ;-)

And to think that a member of Gaznevada (Ciro Pagano, if I remember correctly), in the early '90s would give life, together with Stefano Mazzavillani, to the... Datura!! :-))

Today I saw, on Televolla, the video of "L'Amante No!" by Annalisa, which also features a remarkable collaboration from the above-mentioned. Magnificent! :D

The distinction of Autechre's music into more or less melodic phases is, in itself, a contradiction, especially when talking about artists who, over the course of albums and the supposed "turning points," have built a body of work in which each piece contributes to the construction of a true "unicum," almost indissoluble. Of course, their sound has evolved over time, but not their original aim, which has been pursued through ups and downs. The album is a beautiful work by Autechre, and represents their phase of 14-15 years.. ;-))

One of their most successful works...
The Black Eyed Peas Monkey Business

A somewhat confusing album that takes the mainstream turn of "Elephunk" to the extreme. The Black Eyed Peas, in any case, have released interesting works (before the cunning inclusion of Fergie in the lineup..), such as "Bridging The Gap" in 2000. The same Will.I.Am is a very capable and inspired producer, and in 2002 he also released a beautiful solo work, recorded for the Beat Generation series by BBE, "Lost Change." It's a pity that, after the success, they have definitely rested on their laurels, without even attempting to challenge themselves again. Really a shame.

Actually, "Portishead" is from '97, while "Roseland NYC Live" is from '98. In 2002, "Out Of Season," Beth Gibbons' solo album with Rustin Man, was released, and Andy Smith is still very active as a DJ, in addition to having released various compilations of rare grooves. They may be working in the shadows, but they are still around.. ;-)
