"This is a new band, a new sound, a new idea.."

It might not exactly be as the supporting internet brochure claims, but for those who placidly enjoy soothing (masochistically) their already vilified auditory system, the "Young (and not so happy) Widows"* offer a caustic and engaging delightful half-hour made up of vile sounds, heart-stopping breaks, hysterical screams, and dizzying ups and downs.

Shortly before the recording sessions that spawned such recent remarkable bacchanal, the ex-quartet slimmed down by one unit while simultaneously increasing and qualitatively diversifying their previous thunderous expressive model.

The current remaining three recalcitrant youths based in Louisville, extrapolate, if you eavesdrop closely, one of the most stimulating works of the closing year in the purely Noise-Rock domain: a very substantial, damn squared (Albini-like) percussive timbre combined with a dense, overflowing and dazzling guitar work (vitriolic), permeate indissolubly the eleven tumultuous tracks contained in the telluric "Settle Down City."

A turgid and scarcely dilutable, cacophonous mix Shellac/Unsane/Jesus Lizard/Helmet-like, could become an apt definition to depict the content of the tetchy artifact in question; the average standard of the individual pieces decidedly stands high due to their commendable and arduous malleability in the solutions of the sharp-edged pieces themselves. Among the most attractive moments, I would highlight the prurient and "Unsane" "Mirrorfucker", the sensational [unexpectedly listenable] and telluric "The Charmers" and, conversely, the much more agitated "The First Half", beyond the two notable shards ("Settle Down City", "Almost Dead Beat") placed at the beginning as irrefutable and unmistakable warnings, for any musically reckless.

Furthermore, one would agree with me, the chrome-canary and smiling Quasimodo in plastic and on proud display is at least adorable... how could you say "Sure, it looks like you"?
