Damien Chazelle La La Land
Voto:
I hate this kind of movie, but this is a masterpiece. No bullshit, it's Hollywood doing what it has to do. With extreme elegance. The last 15 minutes are out of this world.
Denis Villeneuve Arrival
Voto:
Well, maybe it was enough to say that this movie has one of the most pointless endings in the history of cinema. The plot holes are definitely there, but in the end, you can overlook them. Villeneuve is playing at being Nolan (plot holes included), and he does it quite well, but the film ends up closing in the most ridiculous way possible. The first real misstep from a great director. Let’s hope he doesn’t mess up Blade Runner too.
Jaco Van Dormael DIO ESISTE e vive a Bruxelles

A film full of exceptional ideas, ironic, melancholic, and visually stunning. Much deeper than it may seem. Perhaps a bit too ragged to be a masterpiece, but for me, it comes very close.

In the Debasio from 5 years ago, for those "Yowe" and "Devison" you would have gotten a massive 1st Band avalanche and an absolutely badass record.
Jim Jarmusch Gimme Danger
Voto:
Jarmusch is obsessed with the Stooges, Tom Waits, and the White Stripes; in fact, whenever he can, he includes (or references) them in his films. What can I say about them? If I had to explain to an alien what rock is, I would make them listen to Search and Destroy. Or something by Sabbath.
Paolo Virzì La pazza gioia

A gem of a film. The final scene on the beach is very forced, but almost inevitable. "Senza fine" by Gino Paoli adds immense value, and the shot of the two of them lying on the wall is of astonishing elegance. Ramazzotti is the perfect mix of awkwardness and is absolutely adorable.
Kenneth Lonergan Manchester By The Sea
Voto:
Definitely a good film, but I must admit that despite the super tragedies faced, it left me a bit indifferent. Still waters in the midst of hell, practically. In a month, I will have already forgotten it.
Nick Cassavetes The Notebook - Le pagine della nostra vita
Voto:
The love story, despite the numerous overly sentimental moments, is nice and flows smoothly. The bickering between the two is entertaining. As a romantic comedy, it would work, but the problem arises when it tries to shift into dramatic tones, specifically the entire last disastrous half hour. If you're looking for a decent love story, you should steer clear of Hollywood. They still haven't learned how to make them.
The Jesus Lizard - Nirvana Puss - Oh, The Guilt
Voto:
The two most badass bands of the 90s together. Nothing else to say. Back then, we were all oozing testosterone and eager to smash the universe with a baseball bat. Unrepeatable things, dear God.
