To The Lovers, Farewell Discipline And Punish

Anyway, the more I hear the dubstep drop (brostep? I don't know), the more I think about Souls At Zero by Neurosis, and I believe that if that masterpiece of an album were remixed in such a style, it would come out as something absolutely amazing. I mean, some songs seem made just to be dropped and wubwubbed, like Stripped. Now I’ll stop with these rants...

I don't understand what the prefix "sludge" stands for, but this record rocks. Raunchy and ignorant, twisted, at times it gives you a headache while you're trying to figure out where the hell all those three hundred intertwining melodies are going. In the car, cruising through the city center with the windows down, it will make its mark on the occasions when I set aside my beloved bearded musicians.

Anyway, I’m listening. The right word is EPILEPSY.

Does it make sense to mix two genres like this? I don’t know. In 2012, does it still make sense to experiment, or to try to combine absolutely antithetical sounds? I don’t know. Surely, one must experiment, seek new paths, and not remain always on the same tracks. But I don’t believe you have to do it forcefully in all sorts of ways. You shouldn’t sit there and say, “what are the two genres that have nothing in common whatsoever? Sludge and dubstep! Alright, let’s mix them!” because it doesn’t work like that. The pursuit of novelty at all costs seems pointless to me... As if you had to change history overnight. To end up with all the stuff we have now, it took us 70 years, and when there was less, it was also easier. In any case, I will listen.

After 26 years, even though it may not seem like it, the spirit still lives on.

Yet I think that if the LPs left the music business behind and did serious things, they would have potential. They have the ability to write beautiful melodies, and they don't have a bad singer...

Beautiful reissue for the best album by Grails. Evocative landscapes painted in watercolor.
