Yet another spectacular release from Aurora Borealis, the charming English label, which, after Crebain (rotten US BM), Fungal Hex (Stephen O'malley's visual side project), and WolfMangler (Swedish doom-death), brings us this sincere and surprising work by Grails, limited to only 500 copies on fluorescent yellow vinyl (splendid)!

After their trials under Neurot (Burden of Hope, Redlights), which exposed them to the indie underworld as yet another band that was "too much like Slint, too much folk..." without diminishing any of their compositional abilities, the Grails have decided to change their direction: the gentle tranquility of some of their previous solutions here gives way to powerful rhythmic structures, with walls of golden sound gracefully crashing against the walls of our eardrums, or unsettling slowdowns stirred by almost jazz-like breaks. Also because, unlike in the past, there's no trace of Timothy's violin here, as he has sadly left the band...

No matter, as the group's sound, in my opinion, has become stronger, and has finally been released from the prejudices it was too often subjected to. 4 tracks where light and dark blend perfectly, like the contrast between the disc and the cover. You might say only 4? And on vinyl at that?! It's worth it, grab it if you still find copies around... ah, by the way... this is the second part (BTP II)...

The first part has yet to be released, also on 12", under Robotic Empire, but who knows when... cool... the second comes out before the first... mah
