But look what you bring up!!! Here’s the good metal of the 80s, which I am very nostalgic for.
Metallica Ride The Lightning

A souvenir for Mercyful Fate, who had a significant influence on the final outcome of this album (the two bands met in Copenhagen, the home of Mercyful and where Metallica recorded this album). "The Call of Ktulu" was the starting point for getting to know Lovecraft: I owe a debt to "Ride the Lightning."

Alright for the arguments, but I don't feel this pressing need to establish who got to a result first. I take this album for what it is, and I give it my all because it fully satisfies my desire for good music. After all, even back in the day, the krautrockers were not unknown: Kraftwerk were planetary stars, La Düsseldorf sold hundreds of thousands of their albums all over Europe, Can were doing well, and along with Faust, they had quite a devoted following in the UK, while "the doors of the cosmos that are up in Germany" were also discussed by Eugenio Finardi. It's only natural that such things would deeply fascinate a curious person like Duca, but it also influenced many others. No one takes away from Krautrock its merits, and it doesn't seem right to take them away from Bowie.

Honestly, I've tried to focus on the spectacle (after all, even my favorite historical film, "Spartacus," twists history like a sock to fit a Hollywood script), but what I feel is missing in this film (just like in Gladiator) is the human side: the heroes are too one-dimensional, the enemies too inhuman. It would be fine for a film aimed at motivating an army, but at this point, it smells a little fascist to me... And for the spectacle, I know I'm an incurable nostalgic, but the use of CGI takes away the surprise: can you compare that to watching - for example - "Ben Hur" and wondering how they rebuilt the circus of Jerusalem (assuming there was one in Jerusalem)...

Not that I understood much of the reflection on who dominated the electronic scene in the early 70s (not that Can were particularly electronic, except in the editing phase of their tracks - and then Tangerine Dream’s Alpha Centauri, Zeit, and Atem were already considered prophets of cosmic electronics starting from '71; in fact, to be precise, the definition of "Kosmische Musik", despite what is said, was invented by them). The review, however, describes very well a beautiful album, which set a way of making music that is still quite relevant today.

As heterogeneous as it is, it contains some of the most beautiful things ever recorded by the New Trolls. Nico on guitar is truly astonishing: in "Paolo e Francesca" he could outshine Santana.

I discover this review a bit late... but I have some insights on "Venti o cent'anni." The track wasn't part of the original album lineup, but it's a single released in 1971 (more or less around the time of the first Concerto Grosso). It’s a deeply felt hard rock piece, showcasing a stunning vocal performance by Di Palo and moments of great aggression (with the flute as the solo instrument). From this album, I also really enjoy "Vent'anni," a reflective moment in line with certain acoustic and progressive explorations that can be heard on the latest album by Ibis.

I didn't appreciate the choice in the production phase of this album to replace the mellotron with more synthetic strings that don't deliver at their best (especially in River of Life). Perhaps the vocals are also slightly inferior. In my opinion, what stands to gain are the lyrics, perhaps the true Achilles' heel of this band.

Nice review. I like this album more than Aqualung (especially "Nothing to Say").

Beautiful review for an intense and deeply reflective album. The lyrics of "Un Angelo" are among the most beautiful in all of Italian prog.
