Yay!!! If you hadn't written it, I probably would have! Another very important work for the genre, the true ancestor of all vampire novels! I might have focused on different aspects, but the analysis of the contemporary cultural factors is cool too! Great, great! Let's expand our knowledge of this literature!!

Well, yes, on this point I can't really disagree with you, but the thing is when I like something I tend to shower it with praise, what can I say, I'm in love with Carmilla! :D... well, I believe it has indeed contributed: in the evolution of the genre, not in its formation, of course... and regarding Coppola's film, what I really wanted to say is that it has spread a more direct knowledge of it to everyone, especially among those who have never read the book (and there are many)... then of course everyone knows who Dracula is: Stoker's novel was so successful that it created a true myth: nowadays the mere name Dracula is synonymous with vampire, a bit like the name Lord Ruthven was in the nineteenth century...

@Trellheim: um, I'm sorry to have reminded you of painful memories.. @Ashanti: well, you see, I didn't think it was very useful to write a treatise on the book, preferring to just point directly to the reading... I thought I had included all the elements, but... in particular, where did I gloss over? I'm not asking you out of annoyance or defensiveness, but just to understand what the weak point is; feedback helps us improve.. honestly, I can't think of anything else to add...

Thanks everyone for the votes!! @Tomgil: can you believe I read that "The Guest of Dracula," initially intended as the first chapter of what would later become Dracula, was even published posthumously for this very reason! As for the femme fatale, of course there had been early indications in literature (and not only, since Redon's painting of "Salomé" is from the 1860s if I'm not mistaken), but what I meant to say was that by the end of the 19th century, this figure would be used more extensively, becoming a true topos, in all its variations, from the vampire to the mermaid to the seductress, and so on. @Anatas: hey there, old friend, let's catch up! @Shooting Star: yes, I highly recommend it! @Saputello: I don't know, I still prefer "Carmilla."
