Massive Attack Splitting The Atom (EP)

From these initial listens, I can tell you that it is very different from 100th Window. What struck me is how simple it is in many structures, transitions. Not that it’s any less beautiful, but if you’re expecting things like "Butterfly Caught" or similar, well, there aren’t any here (maybe just Atlas Air). It’s something else, as they say.

In the new album, there are really some great songs: Pray For Rain, Splitting The Atom (which we've already talked about), the new version of Psyche, truly surprising, Flat Of The Blade, Girl I Love You featuring Horace Andy, Paradise Circus with Sandoval. It seems really strong to me and also has more than a few elements of novelty. Anyway, for me, Pray For Rain is a standout track.

I’ve listened to the entire new album. I’m not quite sure what to think, but don’t expect anything like Mezzanine or 100th Window (an album that I actually really liked anyway).

Not to forget Mezzanine, also from 1997!

The cover is the same as that of Unkle because both were created by 3D Robert del Naja.

Clean and honest review, well done. An intriguing and absolutely valid album, light-years away from the previous one. Plenty of craftsmanship, but also more than a few creative sparks, from the title track to Cedars Of Lebanon, passing through Fez and Unknow Caller. Among the best tracks, I would also include "Moment Of Surrender," a truly beautiful song.
