the next one is really special. it's to celebrate my entry into the top 100 of DeBaser for the number of reviews : D what about you? I like your reviews, but you’re not very prolific...

Anyway, it was a pleasure to discuss with you, even though it was about something where there isn't even the slightest point of agreement. At the very least, having you as a conversation partner helped me further and better frame my understanding of Biffy Clyro; I have a clearer and sharper idea now. P.S.: I am always willing to change my opinions, so I look forward to your review of The Vertigo of Bliss. In the meantime, I will dust off this album and also your Infinity Land. If I change my mind about them, I’ll let you know promptly. Thank you for the ratings and comments.

why don't you try listening to mansun? do you like mansun then? and sunny day real estate? the idea of acceleration/deceleration/accelerat ion is old, but if used well, it always leads to good results. as for deconstruction (mansun for example), not always... ideas are needed, and they all have to be good, otherwise if a passage isn’t effective, you might ruin a piece that could have been fantastic. being brave is a good thing; being crazy is another matter. I’m not saying that the biffy are crazy (or not entirely), but (and this album here, simpler than the others, is proof of that) maybe they’ve realized that they pushed too hard with the last two attempts. and when you remove the "dust" of ostentatious originality, all that remains is the "body", the carcass, the structure, that is, a handful of songs... and then you realize that this band is (was) the british (scottish) version of nirvana (while now they are of queens of the stone age). that’s why three stars.

I hope you appreciate the honesty with which I present myself, just as I appreciate yours. The majority of the criticism, however, even and especially that which is accredited, seems to be in my favor. That doesn't mean you can't be right, though. Far from it!

I’ve realized that I almost hate everything British... and not out of mere contrariness. I repeat, infinite land (whose review was read carefully and made me want to dust off darkened sky, as well as go buy puzzles, and write about them) didn’t appeal to me... too obscure, too self-referential in my opinion... a stance, not mine towards them, but theirs towards the potential audience, that of the absolute deconstruction of the song. More than Manara’s covers, they should feature the projects of the mad visionary architect Giovanni Battista Piranesi: the incomprehensible geometries of his drawbridge better suit the structure of their songs... useless, not even unpresentable, just as they are, and therefore self-serving. For this reason, while loving the boldness and originality in the "body of song" (title of an album by Mould : D), I invite people not to be deceived by Biffy Clyro.

ah, the vertigo of bliss is all yours, if you want. I have to go back to Bob Mould : )

Puzzle is undoubtedly closer to a 4 than to a 3. But since I gave a 4 to the debut... it’s true (or at least I’ve written it too) that there are many standout tracks here, but damn... Biffy, step off the beaten path and carve out one of your own! Anyway (and I've already written this in the pre-review), they are and will always be better than the British invasion (clones of clones) or the "new new wave" Editors, to whom I would never dare give more than a 2.9. At least the Biffy "mix" their obvious musical references, while the others just replicate everything note for note! If it serves to "catch teenagers," I hope so, but only for "educational" purposes: it could spark a rock education that doesn’t exist today, given that rock has become Avril Lavigne and Amy Lee. But that certainly doesn’t mean that Puzzle is a great album.

I would fully quote Ghemison and I'd sign it in blood too, but I have a vested interest. One of those, that is, who receives 4 or 5 comments per review, in which I often hear that the reviews are too long, that the albums in question are known only to me, that the band I'm reviewing is not known, or worse yet, that it sucks for the constipated.

the best review I've read so far about this album. the most truthful. the most comprehensive. the one that will finally make the world understand that Bruni was born to do something else. something entirely different.

Thank you, Hetzer... I prefer to stay without this film... the nostalgic dream of childhood could shatter into pieces in the face of a reality that's too shabby.
