In my opinion, in the south (and I have nearly thirty years of experience in this regard), people mostly just get by, curb their ambitions for a secure job, which pays less but requires less thought, and more generally they seize every opportunity to avoid work or reduce their efforts... I believe it’s more exhausting to find constant excuses to not work than to work from morning till night, and so, in a short time, I found myself with "excess" work from other colleagues, who were finally able to shed another hefty pile of tasks.
