Morning... Cold wind... School has just started, I see other students arriving while waiting for the bus. Among them, there are no friends of mine. D&G, Baci & Abbracci are their clothing brands, I don't identify with them, but I don't feel out of place, quite the opposite... I love being in total asociality.
That "tunz tunz" disco beat can't distract me from contemplating my new CD, which I was gifted the day before. "Doors, Live in Hollywood" is the title, I saved it for the trip, dying of curiosity. Finally, I see my bus pulling into the square. The moment I've been waiting for since yesterday has arrived...
I board the bus, the heating is off, I turn on the player, and after Morrison's greeting to the audience, the notes of the classic cover "Back Door Man" kick in. Jim is incredibly energetic, the drums keep the rhythm perfectly, and the cold seems to gradually disappear with the notes of that rough blues. "Break on Through" is transformed, and despite the less intense choruses, it is still compelling; I don't know what's keeping me still; the vehicle seems to travel incredibly fast. With "When the Music's Over", an incredible mental state is reached, very calm and exciting during the slower parts but fierce enough in the central section. The best together with "Light My Fire". "You Make Me Real" confirms the album's beauty. Listening to "Universal Mind", it's impossible to remain indifferent. My brain vibrated with every single note, and hearing Jim sing, one can only realize what a loss the music world has suffered.
A fog bank surrounds the bus, fog that increases significantly during the blues rock of "Touch Me", and with a record like this, one can only think of one thing: that fog is actually concert psychedelic smoke, proving that now it's serious, proving that now we're in the heart of the live show, backed by a fiery performance of "Soul Kitchen", where Desmore's drums (much more prominent than on studio albums) seem to go wild. A pause for Jim, with Manzarek's microphone performance in "Close to You" and the instrumental part of "Peace Frog", but the frontman returns in style to excellently sing "Blue Sunday" and especially "Five to One". "Celebration" is an appetizer to an extremely beautiful "Light My Fire", where the duels between Manzarek and Krieger take center stage. It almost feels like watching the stage catch fire...
Just in time, because I see the "Ati Bus Carignano" sign on the yellow post of the stop... my friend touches my arm... I hear a scream, "Damn Marco, what's wrong with you? It's time to get off, hurry up or we'll be stuck on the bus!"... And so I gently placed the CD back in its case and got off... I left my world and started making my way to alight... I realized that the Doors concert had come to an end... Now it's time to return to normal life...
Damn province that takes away the will to live...
