Linear review for a rather nonlinear record :) Perhaps the best release of a year, 1991, definitely rich.

Absolutely agree on the Flaming Lips! For me, the highlights of the album are indeed Fuck The Valley Fudge (for its simplicity and uniquely personal melodic flavor) and Goodbye?, which if it only had a love song lyric, I could sing endlessly to my girlfriend (if I had one) :D As for the notes on the back, that friend of mine asked me too, "but who the heck is this Todd Zilla?", I honestly have no idea, but the letter seems like a joke (like "you sent me lyrics to make into songs but I prefer to use my own")... more for us than for some mysterious him.

Giov, you just beat me by a hair! Beautiful, beautiful. Just a couple of notes: I wouldn't push the comparison with Radiohead too hard; the old-timers feel much more "American"... and for the same reason, that "New Order" dropped in there... mmm... Anyway: I'm super happy about this EP, a splendid sign after the rather flat "Sumday," and I'm already drooling for the new one. I would have used (in fact, I did when discussing it with a friend) exactly the same words for Florida...! Fuck The Valley Fudge, a gem. In "Goodbye?" they reference themselves brilliantly (the structure of So You'll Aim Towards The Sky, the melodic solutions of Gentle Spike Resort...), do you agree? And that's a great thing because it hints that after the "carefreeness" of "Sumday" the good Jason has reclaimed his style (notably, he wrote and did everything on this EP by himself) and in the meantime, it has matured even more; who knows... certainly "The Sophtware Slump" is a masterpiece, but I join in the wish from your last sentence hoping the next "book" might surpass it (though that's tough). Cheers :)

He he, Giov, it wasn’t intentional, take it out on the code that occasionally breaks up the sentences :) Anyway, reading myself again... I mean, for a Sunday night mental workout, mine wasn’t bad at all, right? Damn, the F factor influences pretty much all the values in the formula, so in the end, it’s quite neutral... like saying “never make long-term decisions SOLELY based on the F factor.” Monday morning mental workout ;)
