I agree, JoP. However, perhaps a faithful interpretation doesn’t always mean “aseptic,” right? It depends on the composer’s intentions... I mean, if the composer wants their work to sound like a midi, then that type of performance is welcome. On the other hand, playing Beethoven like a midi wouldn’t be faithful; it would be “personal”...

I connect back to Grass's discussion to ask myself (and you): I know it's difficult to talk about it in general (without referring to specific works), but do you tend to prefer "faithful" interpretations or very "personal" ones like Gould's?
