Let me explain better, Jim. I think that in the '50s, as BabboNatale said, there wasn’t much choice in musical terms. It was either this way or that way. The "this way" obviously refers to Nilla Pizzi. Regardless of what people say, her songs have always seemed very light to me (though I limit myself to mentioning Vola Colomba and Papaveri e Papere: but since during that time, in the post-war era, people were satisfied with the essentials, Nilla Pizzi appeared to be the savior of all souls. If her songs had been released today, we would all label them as arteriosclerotic: don’t deny it. But that doesn't matter: Nilla, even if I don't like her, is, for me, history.
