Hello everyone! This is my first review and I decided to review the first album by Muse. The tiny problem with this album is that it seems copied from many artists: I can't say precisely who, but the sensation is huge. And you can feel it pretty well. Matthew, what are you up to?
However, if you dedicate a minimum of attention and don't lose yourself in other thoughts, the first notes of "Sunburn" will immediately start making you realize that, even with various "inspirations," the album isn't so bad. "Sunburn" is an energetic mix of guitars and pianos, and the following "Muscle Museum" is no less, with its distinctive guitar intro. "Fillip," a very energetic song but nothing too special, precedes the melancholic "Falling Down." After this, it's time for "Cave," which didn't really catch my interest, and is the song I've listened to (I think) the least...
...And here's the best part. It starts with the drums of "Showbiz" which then transforms into truly unexpected choruses and phrases. Track number 8 is without a doubt my favorite. It starts with a "uauuaauuuaaauu" that sounds like a motorcycle, the guitars kick in and then... Interestingly, the chorus is always done twice, one undistorted and the other not. The remaining three, "Sober," "Escape" and "Overdue" are very similar but the difference with "Escape" is its structure: first a calm part, then a nice energetic middle, and then the end, identical to the beginning. All in 3:31 minutes. However, I remember "Sober" for that particular effect you hear around 2:30 minutes in which alternates distortion with an otherworldly effect. Even "Overdue" is not a song to throw away, despite being very short, only 2:26 minutes. But that's not what matters. The last one is "Hate This & I'll Love You," a song I haven't quite figured out, but it doesn't seem bad to me.
Well, I'm done: buy it, burn it, download it, do whatever you want but listen to it. Or not, if you don't like it. The choice is yours.
Showbiz is fresh and lively music, the album flows well between instinctive rock and traditional ballads.
Muse makes undemanding music, which is easy to listen to without issues, perhaps a bit too catchy, but in the end, it is a good work.
When Bellamy wrote 'Sunburn,' he must not have been more than 21 years old, and I am surprised by the maturity of this song which remains my favorite in their repertoire today.
'Muse were, I repeat were, a talented band... they managed to blend different influences into sophisticated music and, all in all, not devoid of creativity and originality.'
‘Showbiz’ is undoubtedly an album I would recommend to everyone, magnificent lyrics and atmospheres.
Muse presents a poetic and introspective grunge album with stunning voice and melodies, unparalleled in the current mainstream rock landscape.
The Muse was born, an English trio that achieved what many producers would dream of putting on the market: an almost perfect debut album.
"Showbiz" is probably among the best songs of the band’s entire career,... leading to an explosive chorus that concludes with an utterly powerful solo.
