THE REVIEW

THE SUCCESSOR OF THE MASTERPIECE ARISE BRINGS SEPULTURA TO A MUSICAL EVOLUTION. MANY IN CHAOS A.D. SAW THE BIRTH OF NEW METAL AND A MORE NEW AGE INFLUENCE IN THE BAND'S MUSIC. THE BAND IS COMMITTED TO REDISCOVERING THEIR ROOTS. THE SOUND OF THE NEW SEPULTURA LOSES THE SLAYER-LIKE IMPRINT THAT HAD DISTINGUISHED THE PREVIOUS ALBUMS AND TURNS TOWARDS A SLOWER TRASHCORE DIRECTION WITH DOOM INFLUENCES BUT STILL EQUALLY HARD. CHAOS A.D. IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL ALBUM THAT BREAKS OUT OF THE CANONS OF EXTREME MUSIC, I.E., DEATH AND BLACK. VERY HARD AND VIOLENT TRACKS FOLLOW EACH OTHER, LIKE THE OPENER REFUSE/RESIST OR THE FOLLOWING TERRITORY, A TRUE ANTHEM OF DENOUNCING RACISM. AND IT IS ON THE SEPULTURA LYRICS THAT THEY BECOME MORE AGGRESSIVE, IN ADDITION TO CONTINUING THEIR SOCIAL FIGHT AND SOCIAL DENUNCIATION, THEY ALSO FOCUS ON THE ORIGINS OF THEIR PEOPLES AND THEIR TRIBAL ORIGINS. XAVANTES FINDS SEPULTURA IN FRONT OF REAL TRIBAL ANTHEMS AND REMINDS OF THE HOMONYMOUS TRIBAL TRIBE THAT COMMITTED A MASS SUICIDE RATHER THAN BE COLONIZED. THE THEME OF HUMAN ENSLAVEMENT CONTINUES WITH THE BEAUTIFUL SLAVE NEW WORLD, WHILE WITH BIOTECH IS GODZILLA, A COVER OF DEAD KENNEDYS, ON ULTRA-FAST RHYTHMS, IT DISCUSSES TECHNOLOGY THAT KILLS MAN. AMONG THE BEST TRACKS, WE FIND PROPAGANDA AND AMEN, WHICH DEALS WITH RELIGION. I SKIP THE NEXT ONE AND GET TO MANIFEST, WHICH TALKS ABOUT THE BRAZILIAN PRISONS OF CANCADIRU IN 1992 WHEN THE POLICE MASSACRED THE INMATES. TO CLOSE THE ALBUM WITH A PUNCH IN THE FACE, CLENCHED FIST DOES IT. IT'S DEFINITELY NOT AN ALBUM LIKE ARISE OR BENEATH THE REMAINS, BUT SEPULTURA'S ABILITY IS ACKNOWLEDGED. THE BEST THING COMPARED TO THEIR PEERS. THEIR MUSIC EVOLVES BUT NEVER COMMERCIALIZES, WHICH OTHER BANDS WERE BEGINNING TO DO AT THAT TIME. THESE ARE WORDS THAT HAVE PART OF THIS MUSIC FOR GENERATIONS AND HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO MAKING WHAT METAL IS TODAY: MORE THAN A PASSION, MORE THAN A RELIGION. THESE TRACKS, ALONG WITH OTHER BANDS, HAVE HELPED MAKE METAL A POTENTIALLY UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE, ABLE TO EVOLVE AND TRANSFORM, "Able to resonate in the strings of reality," A GIFT FOR BOTH THOSE WHO SPEAK IT AND THOSE WHO LISTEN TO IT. WITH THIS ALBUM, THE RECOGNITION OF THE BAND ARRIVES. IT IS ACHIEVED WITH THIS ALBUM AND AFTER THIS ALBUM, IT WILL BE THE LAST GREAT ALBUM BEFORE THE GREAT DECLINE AND WILL MARK THE WATERSHED FOR BOTH SEPULTURA AND METAL IN GENERAL. ENJOY LISTENING TO EVERYONE.

Sepultura does what no one had done before.

An album that will make history and fortune for this Brazilian band from Belo Horizonte that unintentionally changed something in the world of extreme music.

With "Chaos A.D." Sepultura move away from the tired "satanic" themes of previous albums, focusing more on the album's sound.

They still have the credit for having demonstrated, with "Chaos A.D.", how metal can be much more than a few repetitive chords and superficial poses oscillating between the epic and the satanic.

The album is very violent and Brazilian, blending many musical genres.

The album is the conjunction between the black metal masterpiece Arise and the subsequent great Roots.

"Chaos A.D. represents a key moment in the band’s history, producing an intense, solid, and simply spectacular album."

"Impossible to remain passive in front of such violence, such anger, and such frontal assaults that do not make prisoners."
