Genesis ...Calling All Stations...
Voto:
Primiballi, you're right, but the blocking factor was the voice: I can't imagine something called Genesis with a voice other than Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins.
Franco Battiato Ferro Battuto
Voto:
Indeed, here the "Genius" has taken a nice vacation and has gifted us a handful of somewhat anonymous tracks, though always of great class. That creative spark is missing, the one that gave life to memorable songs like "La cura" and "Shock in my town", yet the period is more or less the same, and it's one of Battiato's most prolific. Personally, I also abhor the remix of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto in "Personalità empirica": a pointless mess. A passable album, nothing more.
The Alan Parsons Project The Turn Of A Friendly Card
Voto:
Excellent review, precise and detailed as I like it. Regarding the album, I would be a bit less enthusiastic: it is very pleasant, technically impeccable, but at times creativity falls short, especially in certain parts of the long (too long) self-titled suite. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it remains the best of A.P.P., who starting from "Eye in the Sky" will dangerously slide towards the commercial.
Genesis ...Calling All Stations...

For me, Genesis produced the best music of the '70s, so I am a bit biased towards them: I even tolerate some episodes from the lengthy Collins commercial phase. But this album is the only one I haven't had the courage to buy, and there must be a reason for that.
Enzo Jannacci Foto Ricordo
Voto:
Sorry for the delay, but I completely missed this one. "You and Me" and "Mario" are worth a solid 5 on their own. Which also deserves the review, excellent as always.
J.J. Cale Naturally
Voto:
Finally, J.J. Cale on Debaser: for some time, I’ve been toying with the idea of reviewing "Troubadour," but procrastinating got the better of me, and I was outdone, and quite well at that. J.J. Cale is one of the mysteries of the "market": I’ve never understood why he remained almost unknown, while 1970s Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, whose guitar and musical style are quite similar, sold truckloads of records. Among other things, one of the achievements of this obscure musician is having named one of his albums "Grasshopper."
Enzo Jannacci Ci vuole orecchio
Voto:
I don't know the entire album, just a few songs. Allow me just a small note: in my opinion, although Jannacci is amazing, the greatest Milanese singer-songwriter is Giorgio Gaber.
Creedence Clearwater Revival Bayou Country

I'm starting to think that having just a collection from this group is a bit insufficient. I will have to take action.
Spice Girls Spice
Voto:
Back in 1984, I bought a Spandau Ballet record (Parade), which at the time was the equivalent in lightness of the Spice Girls. It’s clear that today I wouldn’t even think of listening to it again, but I don’t regret the purchase because I liked it at the time. What matters is having a clear conscience.
Aretha Franklin Aretha Sings The Blues
Voto:
I consider Paolo Limiti a musical disinformer because, while being a wellspring of knowledge, especially regarding period music, in his program he preferred to prostitute himself, perhaps for audience reasons, to the basest national-popular tastes.
