Antonello Venditti - Francesco De Gregori Theorius Campus
Voto:
Long yes, but also full of substance, which never hurts. The album feels like it's from another era: how sad it is to think about what Venditti has become... and to think that here he seemed even more promising than De Gregori, who isn't exactly shining much. It's hard to believe that just two years later he would debut with a masterpiece like "Alice non lo sa." Until "Sotto il segno dei pesci," even Venditti would have maintained good levels, then poor Antonello...

Zion, if you want a confirmation of the good things said about "Return to Forever," I have a slightly self-interested piece of advice for you: check out my review of the album in question. I speak very highly of it, even though I didn't even mention the cover, which is indeed stunning.

Contrary to trends: I consider it an excellent album, certainly a product of its time (the '80s) with all that this entails (smooth jazz, pop jazz, whatever you want, but performed with absolute mastery, despite Ella's already venerable age). The adjective "smooth" fits it like a glove more than any Italian word, and the very fact of having used it makes an already great review excellent.

Nice memories, music that’s quite pleasant overall, lyrics... oh dear, here’s where it all falls apart!

It's true, I was just joking: given our artist's rough farmer look, I wanted to make him incapable of writing the word "blues," but just as a joke. The point remains that Adelmo has as much to do with blues as a butt does with forty hours: this is just decent pop, one of the few listenable LPs of ours.

Massimof, if you want to syrup yourself on the first episode of the beautiful story between me and Mariaelena (the true one), go to my review of Peter Gabriel (So). It’s quite intriguing, even though at some point unromantic and rather silly characters pop up, like the one who signs here as "Mariaelena," just to be clear. From the limited and guttural language, they could be described as metalheads, but I wouldn’t want to further discredit that category, which really doesn't need it.

How nice to hear from you again, sweet Mariaelena

The Dalla who said what I quoted did not cause diarrhea: it was from "How Deep is the Sea." It would take several more years for him to completely go to waste.

On the cover, I agree: it’s very “licked,” 80s style (after all, it was 1983), but please let Stephen Schlachs and his horoscope music marinate in oblivion and treacle, without even remotely associating his slimy name with that of Van Morrison.

Dear old silver-painted baldies: even though I now see them through a reversed telescope, tiny as they actually were, I can't completely disdain them. Their electronic little songs made listening to the radio more enjoyable, which even back then tended to play things that were even worse.
