Imagine listening for the first time to songs like "Senza Una Donna": I change the world, I wanna change the world…
famous worldwide or "Hey Man" (later sung with BB King).
From the first track to the last, the feeling is continuous, each song generates a different atmosphere but all come from the same magical, surreal environment, no nuances, great passion.
Speaking of surrealism, I would pause on "Dune Mosse"; a prison suspended in time by layers of fog within which Zucchero shouts light and wind; a fleeting, delicate trumpet solo (not by chance, the album also features the "Instrumental" version).
You can perceive the energy, the genuineness in "Non Ti Sopporto Più" and "Pippo" where a funk tone is attempted; but the need to anchor to soul is great and is always demonstrated. The arrogant sound of "Con Le Mani" cannot deny the influence of Joe Cocker, yet the lyrics are written by Gino Paoli, as in "Bambino Io, Bambino Tu"; the latter has a calm and peaceful style typical of Italian songwriters like Gino Paoli indeed.
The only flaw of the work is precisely the single "Solo Una Sana Consapevole Libidine Salva Il Giovane Dallo Stress e Dall’Azione Cattolica" as the title is already too long; the track is catchy but also superficial and out of place especially when placed next to "Hai Scelto Me".
"Hai Scelto Me" is an immortal masterpiece. When you say "moment of inspiration", Zucchero has perhaps recorded one of the most beautiful songs ever. This track alone justifies the existence of the entire album, perfect from every perspective, every time you hear it, you get goosebumps, you connect your soul to the sky.
With this work, Zucchero declares his affinity with the world of blues.
An album that promises a single for every track. Built on foundations capable of lasting over time, to captivate and fascinate even in this period where nothing surprises us anymore.
Zucchero creates what, beyond any obsessive prejudice, can be freely considered his most crystalline masterpiece: "Blue's."
Maybe it wasn’t blues one hundred percent, but it was emotion, rhythm, fun, carefreeness, professionalism.
