Lucio Dalla: Ciao
CD Audio I have it ★
Re-listened today on CD. Nothing, for me it remains (along with "Il contrario di me" from 2007) the ugliest and least inspired album of Lucio, without a doubt. I hope his soul doesn't take offense, but I really can't find anything, not even a little decent passage... stuff that makes "Canzoni" from '96 look like a masterpiece in comparison.
  • Martello
    10 jul 20
Oh God, there were some passages, there was a desire to convey a message. Lucio and Il contrario di me, on the other hand, had nothing to say, getting a bit too lost among megalomanias and blue fairies that caress clams.

Well... I only remember the single, "Ciao," indeed! After the hit "Canzone," a bit of a flop.
  • Martello

It's a piece with a hidden message behind a silly-looking aesthetic. This is, without ifs, without buts, without #maybes, without whys, without almost buts.
Lucio Dalla: Lucio Dalla

It’s the album by Lucio that I feel most connected to. Simply extraordinary, nothing more to say. On the notes of "Anna e Marco" and "L'anno che verrà," a tear always falls. 9.5

The cover is the Best! Essentially a Greatest Hits, there isn't a misplaced track. For purely "sentimental" reasons, Dalla'80 is my favorite. I remember as a child, Lucio singing "Futura" on Discoring... a small man with a microphone in hand, who "sings" a piece in playback!
Lucio Dalla: Q-Disc
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Great album, perhaps underrated due to the immense commercial success of the '77-'80 trilogy. However, one must not forget that it contains a gem: "Telefonami tra vent'anni." But the other three tracks on the album are also quite good, including the cover of "You've Got a Friend" by Carole King.

Lucio Dalla: Com'è profondo il mare
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Lucio's first singer-songwriter album, and the first of a (wonderful) trilogy. Simply extraordinary, all of Lucio Dalla's genius shines through here: lyrics, music, arrangements... simply perfect. The title track deserves to be among the 10/15 most beautiful Italian songs of all time, not to mention "Quale allegria." A masterpiece. 9.5
  • Martello

I would have given him a 10, with honors. I would have also mentioned Il cucciolo Alfredo and Disperato erotico stomp, but in the end, they are all perfect.

I reserve the ten for very few chosen ones. Among Italian albums, no more than 5 (Radici, Creuza de ma, Ho visto anche degli zingari felici, Anime salve, Via Paolo Fabbri 43).

  • Martello
    16 jun 20
It's also nice that in the finale, with the rhyme hand-far, it manages not to come off as trivial. Indeed, it often touches the heart.
Truly terrifying... probably the lowest point of the entire career. Things like "INRI", "Rimini", or "Due dita sotto il cielo" are worthy of spontaneous combustion... at least there was "Malinconia d'ottobre", quite nice. Average 1.5

OH-MY-GOD. It's worse than that shit from Lucio (2003), it's worse than Canzoni, the apotheosis of all the crap that Dalla was pushing on the market since '96.
Lucio Dalla: Dalla
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Simply a masterpiece: the final piece of the wonderful singer-songwriter trilogy 77-80, it has absolutely nothing to envy from the previous ones. "La sera dei miracoli," "Cara," and "Futura" among the best Italian songs of all time. Rating 9.5
Lucio Dalla: Luna Matana
CD Audio I have it ★★
Del Dalla “deterior” is one of the less bad, but it’s definitely not worth more than 2 balls.
Lucio Dalla: Dalla-Morandi

Here it was already on the decline, although still appreciable. If it hadn't been for Morandi (I can’t stand his voice and his way of singing), I would have easily given it a solid 4.

Gianni Gianni Gianni, how can I explain it to you... in certain contexts you take on the role that you usually thrive on. Step out of your little cup of bullshit for 5 minutes and you'll make a tiny groove a better place.
Lucio Dalla: Angoli nel cielo

The best album by Lucio post "Henna". He finally manages to get back on his feet and earns the pass mark that has been missing since 1993. Rating almost 3.5.

Lucio Dalla: 1983
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
I instead go against the tide and say that I have always loved this album, although I consider it inferior to the previous ones. Let's say that it's from here that a slightly less sharp period begins, but still of great quality, and it will last until the next album. Title-track, "L'altra parte del mondo" and "Camion" are the most successful pieces. 4 solid stars.
  • Martello
    14 apr 20
I don't think it's a throwaway album, but I wouldn't give it four stars either. The next one will definitely be better. Even though there are at least two or three exceptional tracks here (the title track is worthy of the best from the author, at least in my opinion).
Lucio Dalla: Canzoni
Vinile I have it ★★
The beginning of the end for Lucio. I would save the beautiful "Ayrton," the second version of "Disperato erotico stomp," and a bit of "Tu non mi basti mai." The rest? Somewhere between disappointing and embarrassing. Almost 2.5.

Here Uncle Pino is at the peak, and this represents the third consecutive masterpiece. Extraordinary, even in the super famous tracks like "Yes I Know My Way." "Viento 'e terra" the masterpiece of the album. 9
Pino Daniele: Passi d'autore
CD Audio I have it ★
The worst of the worst by Pino Daniele, even more miserable than "Come un gelato all'Equatore" from a few years earlier. What sadness..
  • Martello
    20 jun 20
I only found two CDs at Pino's house: one is the single CD of Gelato all'equatore (and from that I already understood to keep at least five feet away), the other is this Non calpestare i fiori nel deserto. Is this last one still at okay levels or should it already be considered as heated cow dung?

    20 jun 20
Let's say, if I had to compare it to a colleague's album, I would say for example "Canzoni" by Lucio Dalla or "Abbi dubbi" by Bennato... albums that are insufficient and definitely dispensable, but not unbearable to listen to.
pino daniele: la grande madre
CD Audio I have it ★★
Meh meh. We are quite far from the most vulgar and unbearable Pino of a few years ago, but also from the still sufficiently inspired (and therefore still salvageable) one of "Un uomo in blues" and its surroundings. 2.5
The "Vai mo'" band is back together. Is this the result? Meh, at this point it's better without it. Almost 1.5

'O cess.
Perhaps the worst album by Pino Daniele (it competes with that other "masterpiece" that was "Passi d'autore" a few years later, in 2004). Nothing really saves itself, not even the cover. And what saddens me the most is that this man is the same one who wrote and sang songs like “Putesse essere allero,” “Chi tene o mare,” “Terra mia,” etc. etc... rating 3/10.
  • Martello
    7 jul 20
As Daniele Silvestri said some time ago: "Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino you see that you're an asshole."
If the previous "Don't Trample the Flowers in the Desert" was already inadequate, here begins an additional worsening of the decline that Pino was already facing, which will be confirmed by the subsequent (and even more miserable) records. He will not rise again, except for the partial exception of "Medina" in 2001. Rating between 1 and 1.5.
Pino Daniele: Iguana Café
CD Audio I have it ★
Basically the same mechanics as the previous one and all the subsequent ones: a presumptuous record, infinitely below its capabilities and labeled as a high-level album. However, it is slightly less unbearable than "Passi d'autore," but just slightly. And there really wasn't any need for a cover of "It's Now or Never" (done like this, anyway...).
Pino Daniele: Mascalzone Latino
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The best album by Pino after "Ferryboat" is possibly rivaled only by the 1987 record. "Anna verrà" is truly wonderful, one of the last gems in the discography of the Neapolitan artist. 7.5

And yet, even for the newspaper Rollinston that lists among the hundred most beautiful Italian records, I hold the album "Non calpestare i fiori nel deserto" recorded fifteen years ago...
Pino Daniele: Terra mia

Among his earliest albums, this is perhaps the least musically original, but at the same time the most heartfelt and sincere. The title track is likely the most beautiful song dedicated to Naples. 4.5

Musically "inferior" compared to the later ones, the lyrics are Pino Daniele's best, poetry upon poetry.
Pino Daniele: Che Dio Ti Benedica
CD Audio I have it ★★★
I've always found the title track terrible, but the rest of the album is quite enjoyable to listen to. It's definitely Daniele's last hurrah, speaking of (almost) whole records. 3.5
Pino Daniele: Schizzechea with love
CD Audio I have it ★★★
The first album is a bit too uneven from Pino, and consequently, the first signs of a definitive artistic decline. Among the best tracks, I would point out "Tra la pazzia e il blues," "Gesù Gesù," but especially the beautiful "Jesce juorno" (which certainly deserves a place among his best pieces). The rest is all in all dignified but "lesser" compared to his previous works. The next three albums will be slightly more inspired, then even Pino will sadly fall into the depths of the abyss of Italian song. 3 round stars.
Pino Daniele: Un uomo in blues
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Personally, I have a nice memory of this disc. Of course, it undeniably did better work before, here it was already in a decline, but it still remains appreciable. The next "Che Dio ti benedica" will manage to be slightly more interesting, then goodbye to Pinuccio as well. 3.5
Pino Daniele: Bonne Soirée
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
I listened to it again recently and reassessed it, but not for the better... it remains the first album that marks a "change of course," after a significant period of great albums. However, I still believe that anything less than a 4 doesn't make sense.

Here he was already experimenting with more Eastern sounds, misunderstood by many (I include myself in this list).
  • Ditta
    2 jan 21
But it's not so much the sounds that are the problem; it's actually the level of the individual tracks that starts to decline (for now, only slightly), despite the presence of songs like “Occhi grigi” or “Aria”...
  • MarkRChandar
    2 jan 21
for me masterpieces stop with Musicante (Disperazione, Stella Nera, and Lazzari felici are among my favorite pieces) everything that comes after... quite modest
  • Ditta
    2 jan 21
“Musicante” is definitely the last album by the giant Pino, but the subsequent Ferryboat is also an album “with balls.” From “Bonne soirèe” to “Che Dio ti benedica,” it slightly slips, but still scatters some flashes of genius here and there, “Jesce juorno” above all, for me.
Then from “Io per lei” (included) onward, it’s just pandering, lyrics that try to win over very young fans from Nek or Ramazzotti, 80s plastic that's a decade late combined with pseudo-great committed records...

This and the subsequent “Ferryboat” I think are two watershed moments, marking the transition from the furious Daniele of the first five albums to the “lesser” (but still adequate, and in some respects even excellent) of the period 87-93.
  • hjhhjij
    10 sep 20
I don't know, "Ferryboat" as a watershed is fine, I still find it almost comparable to the "golden" period; I like it way more than "Ferryboat" (which is not bad, by the way). Anyway, Daniele between 1980 and this had primarily become a kick-ass Fusion musician, with amazing bands as musicalruggine rightly points out.
Pino Daniele: Bella 'Mbriana

Spectacular record, perhaps among his earliest works it remains the most "international" of all musically speaking. Yes, indeed, it's "Tutta 'nata storia".
  • Kism
    15 aug 20
Fantastic, another masterpiece, the introduction to "Tutta 'nata storia" moves me! Pino has succeeded where Battiato has faltered, that is, in following a masterpiece (Nero a metà) with two equally brilliant albums (Vai Mo' and Bella 'Mbriana). With these albums, Pino has become a living legend... I don’t care at all if the albums from the mid-'80s onwards flopped... he had already produced what made him eternal!

Pino Daniele: Ferry Boat
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
For me, the last great album by Pino from beginning to end, even though it came after the “spiritual testament” Sciò. Probably not to the level of many of the previous ones (and I am referring in particular to the wonderful quartet “Pino Daniele”-“Nero a metà”-“Vai mo’”-“Bella ‘mbriana”), but we still find several great tracks and beautiful interpretations. 4.5

This album wasn't exactly an unbearable piece of junk (unlike almost everything that comes after), but for me it marks the beginning of the end for the good Pino. There are still a few interesting moments, like in "O cammello 'nnamurato," "Anima," or "Oasi," but overall it remains a decidedly mediocre work. I won't comment on the most famous track of the album (of course, "Io per lei"). Rating: 2 decent balls.

Among Renato's best albums, but not the best. In fact, "Mi vendo" is one of those big classics that could be a bit overplayed, but aside from that, there are excellent tracks, with "Vivo" and "Il cielo" standing out (the latter is also a classic, but it remains a beautiful song). 4.5

The most beautiful album by Renatone (it's a close call with "Invenzioni"), there isn't a single mediocre track. "Un uomo da bruciare," "Hanno arrestato Paperino," and "Il caos" are the best of the bunch.
