Focus: Focus II

Album, eclectic and with a perfect blend of hard rock and a progressive sound reminiscent of Jethro Tull. A masterpiece! Holy smokes, what a suite "Eruption"!

Surely the Tull were also much more folk. But if there’s one group between the two that was more heavily tilted toward hard-blues/blues-rock, it was Jethro. The Focus had this "classical" melodic ability that was quite evocative.

Battisti doesn't drive me crazy and I know little about him, but I have no doubt that Anima Latina is a fundamental album. In any case, Italian singer-songwriter music is a world to be discovered; from Battiato to De Gregori to Fossati to Lolli and so on, there's truly something for everyone :)

It would be pointless to belittle the Anglophones to praise the Italians or vice versa. It’s like asking: who’s better, Dylan or De André? Absurd. Of course, people like Dylan and Cohen are the foundation of everything that followed, even in Italy (without Dylan, De Gregori would never have existed, for instance), but in the end, that doesn’t mean much. So long live the Italians who are second to none, but also to the foreigners who have set the standard like no one else.
