2Pac: 2Pacalypse Now
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Discovered thanks to GTA. Nice album, 2-3 good songs and nothing more. 2Pac doesn't blow me away, but he has put out a couple of good tracks anyway.
AC/DC: Back In Black
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Surely a masterpiece. Those who claim otherwise have probably lived in Congo for 50 years and have listened to the screams of bonobos that were sodomizing him in a group.

Jokes aside, this album is really cool, I don’t understand the 1s given randomly (and not for personal opinion) by certain idiots...

For me, Back in Black sucks, and quite a bit, but I still listen to them up until Let There Be Rock. What category am I in?
  • ZannaB
    8 oct 15
To stoop to their level, I don't know what it takes, but getting the subjunctives wrong is a good start.
And then think a bit, I don’t understand the 5s given randomly by certain people... Whatever, you define yourself!

Alright, everyone has their own tastes anyway. Plus, AC/DC aren't the best band of the century; it's true they can be repetitive and all, but don't be a pain in the ass calling me a troll just because I think this album is objectively a masterpiece (of the genre), period.

I took it for the pity answer, not for back in black. But it's just a joke, you know :)

Blur: Blur

Blur: Think Tank
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
the most underrated album by blur. A work that is less joyful and carefree and more intimate, with the addition of electronics. Perhaps their peak of artistic maturity.
  • madcat
    18 oct 15
In fact, the previous "Blur" and "13" are cheerful and carefree; I wouldn't say that :) And looking closely at the previous ones, where sarcasm and satire (and even fierce anger) reign, masked with irony (I recently reread their lyrics, which I had never paid much attention to, and I was surprised).
  • SilasLang
    18 oct 15
If "13" is carefree... still, this is an album I liked halfway. Unlike "13"...
  • Psychopathia
    18 oct 15
@[madcat] @[SilasLang] we agree on 13. But couldn't they have avoided that cheesy gospel chorus on tender? Whenever it came on MTV, I'd switch the channel!
  • madcat
    18 oct 15
@[Psychopathia] how much I love that gospel ending! Then in the video, right during the gospel chorus, there was Coxon bursting into laughter :) unforgettable.
  • Psychopathia
    18 oct 15
Anyway, I'm on my second listen of Magic Whip since it was released. This time it's going better :) Almost, almost I’m starting to like it.

  • SilasLang
    18 oct 15
@[Psychopathia] "on 13 we agree. but couldn't they avoid that cheesy gospel chorus on tender?" I TOTALLY AGREE. It really doesn't fit like cabbage for breakfast. well, they needed a big hit to pitch to the radio, MTV, and various executives...
  • SilasLang
    18 oct 15
ps. I find 'The Magic Whip' really terrible... but well, that's another story...
  • madcat
    18 oct 15
Of course, a single "countryrockgospel" lasting almost 8 minutes isn't exactly what the "megadirettorigalattici" were hoping for :D
  • SilasLang
    18 oct 15
Maybe not in terms of the chronos, but it’s still a sweet, syrupy ballad lasting 8 minutes. Would you have imagined "1992" as a launch single? XD
  • madcat
    18 oct 15
hahaha! :) maybe not "1992," but perhaps a "Trimm Trabb," which indeed remains a staple in their live performances even today. In any case, knowing your tastes, I can understand why you might not be a big fan of "Tender," which for me is a fantastic opening track (even though their best album opener ever, in my opinion, is "Beetlebum" for "Blur"), paradoxically perfect for that record. Maybe I'm just wrong, hehe :), but I've always really loved the contrast between that song and what comes next (even right after, with that total declaration of freedom that is "Bugman").
  • Alemisso
    18 oct 15
I might be a fool, but isn't there some electronic hint on parklife too?
  • madcat
    19 oct 15
@[Alemisso] yes, more or less from "Parklife" they start to dabble a bit with electronics to enrich and experiment with sounds, but it has always remained a secondary component of their sound (as you mentioned, hints). On "Think Tank," however, it plays a greater role, also because they had to somehow fill the huge void left by Coxon (the linchpin of their sound structures) throughout the album, except in the closing track "Battery in your leg."

    19 oct 15
From "Blur" onwards begins the phase of their career that I love the most... this is a beautiful album, diverse yet cohesive at the same time... and, since we were talking about opening tracks, I think Ambulance is one of the best songs these guys have produced... it also reminds me of the Berlin-era Bowie, which is my favorite!
  • madcat
    19 oct 15
@the last vero, "Ambulance" is also among their best openers, beautiful
  • SilasLang

Beautiful "Ambulance".....'I ain't got nothing to be scared of....' Very Bowie/Iggy era 'The Idiot' (so Bowie...) XD

Terrible cover.

I think Gianna has a great voice. The early albums weren't bad at all; I haven't listened to this one. For sure, she's one of those artists whose overly commercial turn I couldn't stand.
Gorillaz: Demon Days
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
the album that brought me closer to blur :-D
Gorillaz are a unique band, with a rather distinctive style that blends pop with electronics and hip hop, and I enjoyed them a lot (even though they are making a comeback now). However, I prefer blur more in terms of style. This is a really great album, but I prefer the self-titled one from 2001.

I save them up to Californication, which for me remains a good hybrid between funk rock and pop, and maybe even something from "stadium arcanium," but the rest is mediocre.

Recently reassessed, it's funny how in rock I can listen to the most macabre, cryptic, and dark things but have been subdued by a little disc (by the way, famous all over the world for years) of that genre; they are places that don't belong to me, ugly, empty, desolate, a real nightmare, the old America I was used to seeing in those really ugly movies and cartoons on cathode ray tube, with colors all fucked up and dead that worsen with the aging of the film over the years, living in a world no different from a cell. The fact is that today I would give it a 1 out of spite, I hate it, it makes me nauseous.
