Slint: Spiderland
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
There are moments, not exactly beautiful, when I feel I can only listen to this record. Cathartic.

For me, there's the post rock of Spiderland. And then there's something they call post rock (but which isn't really post rock) made by posers like GY!BE.

@[fuggitivo] I don't think you appreciate GY!BE, it seems to me.

I like them, though not very much, and I still have to finish an entire album of theirs.

@[fuggitivo] Let's not get into these discussions or we’ll end up debating what post-rock is and what isn’t, haha. In my (somewhat) disordered mind, a band like Slint is no longer considered post-rock, maybe more between post-hardcore and slowcore. When it comes to post-rock, I think of other bands in that genre that you mentioned, like Mogwai, g-y!be... I do quite like their earlier works, but the later ones not so much. And I've realized that concerts of this kind are not for me; who knows, maybe it’s because it was ridiculously hot in Bologna and I felt like I was melting, but I just couldn't handle it, all those drones...

certainly beautiful and important, not an album that I feel like listening to often though

Of course, but that’s what makes it special in my opinion.

Enormous. In '96-'97 we were only 10 across Italy to have this LP. Fortunately, time can sometimes be a true gentleman. I also love 'Tweez.'

@Viceroy "Let's not open these discussions, otherwise we'll end up debating what post-rock is and what it isn't," a refined remark. Instead, I write about it. All major masterpieces are ultimately irrational and elusive. But I will try to reflect on Spiderland: for the artist, playing music always requires emotional involvement; it has always been that way. Yet the listener, with Spiderland, first hears the sound, the science, the mathematics, reproduced by Slint with dry sounds, silences, elongated pauses, skewed rhythms, cubist deconstruction. The emotions are retracted, camouflaged. Then, it was the opposite of what had been done in 4 decades of rock music. Like Loveless; it's the hidden melody within the meshes of noise. What GY!BE, Mogwai, Mono, etc. do is simple rock music, special as the artist's intentions and inspiration, but nothing as drastic and radical as Spiderland.

I just want to interject that in the very early works of Mogwai (up to and including CODY), I find a lot of what fugitive has rightly attributed to Slint; then they definitely changed while still remaining fantastic.

@[SilasLang] one positive thing about the internet is that it has given the right visibility to certain groups @[fuggitivo] but look, in my opinion the Slint are not a cold band, they are exciting in their own way.

@[Viceroy] excite me. I like hearing those metallic jingles, those muted thuds, the 6 strings of the electric guitar vibrating isolated from one another, bars of an empty and cold cage, the voice that doesn't sing. An extremist (or a necrophiliac) could even get an erection from it.

I was unaware of its existence until around 2000.

Anyway, I agree with the analysis of fugitive. The Mono, I must say, impressed me quite a bit since their first album, while others still find them soporific.
