Elaboro soltanto la mia Top 20, precisando che, essendo impossibile (ed inutile) elencare tutti i grandi, mi pareva superfluo creare una classifica con 1000 voci.

I don't know if it's in random order or not, but Visconti first compared to Kubrick seventh, Hitchcock thirteenth and Leone twentieth is just not acceptable ;)

Why do you hate good Luchino so much, Grazia?

No, I don't hate Luchino, it's just that I am more struck by the lower positions of the others :D

Leone made 5 films (not counting Colosso di Rodi). Honestly, his most complete masterpiece is "Once Upon a Time in America"; it's not ranked for the "dollar trilogy," which, while enjoyable, cannot be compared to "Once Upon a Time in the West" or "Duck, You Sucker," two excellent movies. Therefore, it seems to me that the other directors I included have contributed something more. Visconti ranged from Neorealism to comedy, from costume dramas that contained very relevant social, cultural, and political intents (let's not forget Visconti's background and his theatrical experience) to intimate dramas set in contemporary backgrounds. As for Kubrick and Alfred, what can I say? They can comfortably hold the top spot as well; I just wanted to reward Luchino's "Italian" sensitivity.

Finally, someone who doesn't automatically place Kubrick on the podium. Honor to you. PS: it's a pleasure to see Tarkovsky and Murnau deserving of recognition.
