Poor Duran, if they hadn’t been so beautiful ;)
Jokes aside, let me try to explain my point of view: I love the wave, but more from a single perspective. An entire album, for example from the magnificent Joy Division (of which I also insanely love songs like Disorder / Love Will Tear Us Apart, etc.), to be honest, I struggle to listen to it. That’s why I often find myself playing more of an early Litfiba / the self-titled Duran Duran / or the entire discography of the truly prog/punk Stranglers. Damn - speaking of Prog/Wave/Punk - I forgot about the Cardiacs.

I understand your point of view; in fact, with the English new wave, the old 45 RPM has made a strong comeback, deeply buried in the 1970s by the infamous "concept albums."

@jdv666: about "no talking heads?". I like them (as well as The Cure, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Christian Death, Wire), but in a ranking I wanted to include my "essentials"; otherwise, I risked making a comprehensive list, certainly, but also a bit generic.

I don't know Cardiacs, I've never delved into The Stranglers, and I've always snubbed The Police (do they deserve a chance?). As for the rest, all nice names (yes, even Duran), even if there might be more influential and important artists outside, but who cares? It's a ranking dictated by personal taste, right? Good job mentioning the too little remembered Fad Gadget.
