Oggettivamente i primi, senza dubbio. Ma io sono soggettiva.
Non si esce vivi dagli anni 80. Punto.

Consorzio Suonatori Indipendenti

Musica di guerra e d'amore. "Linea Gotica" è imperdibile.
Il sottovalutato per eccellenza. Coerente fino all'autodissoluzione, un eroe.
Nuovi, glaciali. Nessuno qui li ha seguiti, peccato.
Per chi ama le sfumature. Elegante.
Pop art d'autore, l'unica in Italia. Merita di più di un revival kitsch.
Intelligente, stralunata, storta, sorpendente. Rarissima.
Fino a Litfiba 3 sarebbero tra i primi 5, per il resto proprio no.
Volevo mettere gli Underground Life, ma Deb non li conosce...

With Faust'o, do you also mean Fausto Rossi? Anyway, he deserves the top spot, Ruggeri much lower down.

CCCP and De Andrè? Maybe they're a bit better than VASCO ROSSI.

definitely schizophrenic, I would say... in a rock ranking, I frankly don’t see what Nannini, Consoli, and Rettore have to do with it... you placed the first two in another category as well... of course, the CCCP cannot be missing

In the first 20, the Timoria would fit perfectly as well...

Well... I understand the objections, but I think we need to reflect on what "Italian rock" really is. How important it is to have managed to mediate between Italic classicism and experimentation. Years ago, people like Ruggeri, Rettore, Camerini, and even Vasco Rossi did a lot to promote a rock mentality in Italy.

I had my doubts about Faust'o (and of course Fausto Rossi) and Ruggeri as well, but I also considered how useful Ruggeri has been for the "mass" understanding of punk and new wave in Italy. De André (whom I love) cannot be considered Italian rock. The same goes for Nannini, Consoli, and Rettore... they make rock, whether you like it or not, but they do... (have you ever heard Gianna and Carmen live?) and they have managed to convey a "rock message" to people who only listened to Italian pop. For me, that is a significant merit.

Before Ruggeri, I would mention Krisma, Gaznevada, Skiantos, and Decibel ;-))

I included the CCCP, which I had previously omitted thinking that mentioning the CSI would sufficiently cover Ferretti and Zamboni's career in a comprehensive sense. You are right, they deserve a separate mention. When referencing Ruggeri, I was also thinking of the Decibel... and in this case, I maintain my position; the Decibel "were" Ruggeri, so I don’t feel the need to mention them separately. I included Gaznevada; in my opinion, they fit well in the top ten, but not that high up. I really like Krisma, but I find them to be more in the new wave realm than true rock. Subjectively, I see Skiantos more as a cultural phenomenon than as musicians...

Anyway, hearing a decent electric guitar in an Italian song during the 80s was impossible. Tracks like "Generazione Combustibile" (Ruggeri), "Asilo Republic" (Vasco Rossi), "Occhi aperti" (Gianna Nannini), "Kamikaze Rock'roll suicide" (Rettore) were revolutionary for me. For Italy, that is.

As for rock, among those you mentioned, the top 5 should absolutely include cccp, csi, litfiba, area, and marlene kuntz, on an objective level, of course...

I would put Fausto Rossi in front of Faust'o. Faust'o's works feel old (except for lovestory and outnow) while the triptych "cambiano le cose," "below the line," and "exit" remain mad gems in the suffocating Italian scene.

"Objectively the first ones, without a doubt. But I am subjective." That's right ;) I would have added some prog in the style of Banco, Osanna, and PFM, but the ranking is subjective. Put Lucio Battisti in and take Necrodeath out, in my opinion.

    I don't love Italian prog, I'm sorry.
@Stonecoldcrazy: I believe it's only possible to make SUBJECTIVE rankings. Your "objective" ranking, for instance, doesn't even include an Italian woman in the rock world? Not only that: why shouldn't I take into account, in my ranking, that Litfiba made 3 masterpieces and a ton of garbage? For example, I appreciated Marlene Kuntz, but after a few years I consider only "Il vile" a masterpiece. Furthermore, why shouldn't I take into account the fact that Area, without a doubt the most important Italian rock band ever, have never moved me like Fausto Rossi? In short, what does "objective" mean? If the world were objective, Fausto would be taught in schools.

Hands off Fausto Rossi, a great songwriter. His worth is second only to the little appreciation he has unfortunately received.

    The Baustelle...
Then Gianna Nannini is unbearable... you could have put Pino Scotto.
