The Profile

Donatella Rettore is an Italian singer-songwriter known as Rettore, active since the 1970s. A pop/new wave icon, she mixed irony and provocation with radio-ready hooks, scoring hits like Splendido Splendente, Kobra, and Lamette, and releasing concept-driven albums across her career.

Stage name: Rettore; primary role: singer-songwriter. Breakthrough at the turn of 1979–1982 with Brivido divino, Magnifico delirio, Estasi clamorosa, and Kamikaze Rock’n’Roll Suicide. Performed “Di Notte Specialmente” at Sanremo 1994. Later releases include Incantesimi notturni (1994) and Caduta Massi (2011). Frequent collaborator: Claudio Rego.

Reviews spotlight Rettore’s late-70s/early-80s run and beyond: playful, danceable pop with sharp, taboo-cracking lyrics. Kamikaze Rock’n’Roll Suicide draws on Japanese imagery and ‘Lamette’ provocation. Brivido divino brings funky-rock gloss; Incantesimi notturni shows a later, reflective side with Sanremo’s “Di Notte Specialmente.” A cult 80s icon with pop bite.
