I don't know Fauré and Janacek; otherwise, the order is absolutely agreeble :)

Do you know "A Polish Requiem" by Penderecki?

I know Penderecki, who is the composer of the soundtracks for The Exorcist and Shining... but I don't know this requiem... I'll get it right away... thanks.

Anyway, as soon as I start to seriously delve into classical music, I'll just need to take a look at all your rankings; great, I already have the sources to guide me :)

Great jdv! It would be nice to form a nice little group for classical music as well... maybe the big reviewers like grasshopper, hal, and others would join...

As for the ranking on the sacred, I have many doubts. I might put Mozart first, then Bach, followed by Beethoven and then Fauré. Every time I listen to that miracle composed by Fauré, I find peace with the world. I don't know Berlioz's work. However, I consider your ranking to be very good.

I've heard quite a bit of classical music since I grew up with it, along with jazz, thanks to my dad; however, let's say my knowledge is very superficial and full of gaps—I only know the most famous pieces... Anyway, little by little I'm trying to keep up with all genres; of course, it's already hard enough to keep up with just one genre, but what can you do :)

It's true jdv. Fortunately, there's always so much music to discover... inversely proportional to the actual time in a day... but with curiosity and a desire, it's definitely possible.

True, although unfortunately it then takes a toll on my social life :D I've already had to put cinema and literature on the back burner, to which I now dedicate just a little something every now and then.

Yes... it's something that comes up often... we could use a day with 3 or 4 slopes... one slope ends too soon.

...perfectly agree with you...to listen to music properly, read novels, watch a few good movies, 24 hours aren't enough..."we would need a day with 3 or 4 tracks"...that's so true.

Yes...by the way, I've been neglecting the cinema quite a bit lately. I really need to watch (and it's about time) Kubrick's Lolita to complete his series...and start researching David Lynch...also on the musical level, considering the latest news...

I would add Monteverdi and especially Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa.

The Stabat Mater by Pergolesi deserves a place (I would like to purchase it, which version do you recommend?)... I have no objections to the ranking since I only know the requiems by: Fauré, Verdi, and Mozart.

Ah, and Handel's Messiah that I adore beyond measure...
