I save everything magnificently, especially if you throw in Camel and Banco...

  • sure, it was pink floyd-king crimson-area...:D

  • Emerson

@ Jargon: I should delve into them, though. Of Camel, I only have a nice Stationary Traveller, by the way on cassette (!) bought at Fnac in Paris during a school trip in the 80s! And I don’t have anything from Banco at all.

  • reverse?

@ lobotomy. Damn... I hadn't noticed. Anyway, King Floyd rocks too :)

  • :D. Anyway, what about the reverse?

Well, Procol Harum in my head feels a bit over the top. Other than that, everything's fine and it’s nice to see the U.K. up so high.

All nice stuff, the positions are subjective, Elp, uk and procol harum too high for me.

@ fedezan: I have a huge weakness for Procol Harum (especially), U.K., and Hatfield!
@ lobotomy: On the flip side, I know very little about them, I only adore Richard Benson from Rome ;))))

  • Well, anyway, I would also include the Moody Blues.

I didn't even consider the Moody Blues as a prog group; in fact, they seemed more like psychedelic pop to me (if psychedelic pop even exists)...

Soon we will discover that teenage knows more about prog than we do and listens to punk just to be cool... :DDD

@ ProgRock: those 3 you mention, in their periods of greatest splendor (okay, too short and for different reasons), have done grand things in my opinion.

  • No, don't worry fedezano :D It was just to suggest a few names; the Moody Blues might not be pure prog, but they were among the pioneers. Anyway, I don't consider myself an expert on prog... Emerson, thanks for the links you sent me, but they don't connect :D

@Emerson: there are three great groups, it’s just that for personal tastes I prefer others, the order doesn’t matter much to me, it’s a great ranking.

he's such a jerk :(( he even put ELP in 19th place among the worst artists of all time! Greg Lake can't be down there, it's against the principles of the UN

  • I'm sorry, Emerson... but I was also generous, come on, I put in 18 before... :)

The Moody Blues, according to the vast majority of progressive enthusiasts, are the foundation of symphonic prog. I like them very little, and the definition "psychedelic pop" seems to fit quite well; perhaps I would add "blues-influenced psychedelic pop." But as usual with all these labels, people throw around nonsense, myself included. It's true, however, that bands like Yes and Genesis have always declared themselves devout followers of the Moody Blues' innovations, so I believe they deserve a certain level of respect.

I don't like them much either, to be honest.

I had forgotten about the Quatermass. Very little production, but worthy!

  • Well yes, the Quatermass inspired a cover by Rainbow, which is why they deserve it :D

Even the Quartirolo were some real rascals, in short, they really brought it down inside while chattering.

It was a double malt gang bang (that knew how to spice it up with ease though).

It's a shame that Sisiano has melted away.

  • Emerson
    3 jun 10
The Quartirolo were a bit too salty and briny for my taste.

I agree, anyway nice ranking except for a couple that I like less.

you’re off track... the absolute greatest are the Roger Chapman family... word of a prognaut... until next time...

  • Rocky Marciano

Good, but in my opinion you've included too few Italians. For me, Area and King Crimson dominated prog, so it's Italy-England.

  • Emerson
    19 jun 10
I included the Italians I knew better, forgive my ignorance. I will make sure to deepen my knowledge of Banco & Co.

Okay, it's worth discovering bands of that level.

At the top of my list are and will always be King Crimson, and after that, I couldn't rank the others... As for Pink Floyd, they are my favorite band, but I recognize that, while they deserve a prominent place as well, in terms of progressive rock there are more representative groups.
