    Real Estate among the worst?

Of course, this is the ranking of my worst. That is, albums I’ve listened to and considered among the least interesting of the year, or failures from artists I expected more from, or that I regularly listen to. So it has a relative value (too easy, as mentioned in the title, to name artists I'm not interested in at all and whose album I haven't listened to). Rather, it becomes a pretext to discuss some albums that I may have 'paid attention to' and then didn’t like. Yes, I found Real Estate rather weak this time. It seems to me that none of their songs really go anywhere. Even if there are some good ideas, they don’t develop them in a consistent way. Everything feels too ethereal, elusive. They haven't been able to recreate the freshness of their early days, and at this point, I don’t know if they ever will. With this album, they really flopped for me: it’s frankly an unnecessary album.

I can understand that it can slip away without leaving much; I felt that sensation at first too. However, when I think of something bad, I associate it with true horrors.

Yes, of course, I completely understand what you mean. We're having a discussion like this with Lao and luludia about one of the rankings of the worst artists of all time. Everyone clearly uses their own arbitrary criteria. Paradoxically, mine (this one here; others I've done are useless, meaning they would need to be enriched, etc., and I don't have the time) was born precisely to engage in a comparison of the various albums mentioned, like in this case. It seems to me that in this album the Real Estate never really manage to take off... every good idea just stays there and that's it: it almost makes me think of feelings of inadequacy. They could use more 'drive' in their case, it seems completely lacking here.

I agree on many points, although I don't on some names like Real Estate. It's a group I have criticized a lot in the past, but this time they've hit the mark for me. It's normal for everyone to have different opinions.

I was responding to the same remark about Taurus a few days ago. Honestly, I really didn't like it, and I consider it the worst of their production (I've liked them on other occasions). In my opinion, if they don't aim higher, or at least try to do so, they'll remain stuck in a kind of mediocrity that gets boring over time. It's like always, Jo, just my personal opinion of course.

I liked Cigarettes After Sex. I mean, nothing transcendental but it definitely deserves 3 stars.

Maybe I wanted to go overboard because of the excessive hype that has built up around it. Sometimes I can be mean. :)
