Grandaddy is an American indie rock band from Modesto, California, led by singer-songwriter Jason Lytle, known for blending lo-fi electronics and melancholic melodies.

Band from Modesto, California; fronted by Jason Lytle; critically noted for The Sophtware Slump (2000). Frequently described as combining lo-fi rock, electronic textures and themes of technology and melancholy.

DeBaser's reviews present Grandaddy as a bearded Modesto indie band blending lo-fi electronics and wistful melodies. The Sophtware Slump is repeatedly cited as their masterpiece; Under the Western Freeway and Sumday also receive strong attention. Overall the coverage is fond, melancholic and appreciative of their low-fidelity, electronic-tinged songwriting.

For:Fans of indie rock, lo-fi and melancholic electronic-tinged pop; listeners exploring late-90s/early-00s American indie.

I review this EP (released in 1999, a few months before the masterpiece concept "The Sophtware Slump") just for this song, the most beautiful by Grandaddy.

One of the American indie peaks of the '90s (release year 1997), one of those 5-6 albums that define a hypermodern melancholy, indeed suggest the indissoluble union between progress-at-all-costs and alienation, not just a rock whine then, 24-karat low fidelity, very Coupland-like in its existentialist stride.
