The fact that he often took uncomfortable and fairly unorthodox political positions (at least relative to his world) is noteworthy, regardless of whether I agreed with them or not. As a songwriter, I have always found him somewhat sentimental, although he has undoubtedly produced some beautiful songs – no doubt about that. more

Setting aside the lesser films that every director inevitably encounters along the way, when I think of "Beetlejuice," "Batman," "Batman Returns," "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood," "Sleepy Hollow," "Mars Attacks!" and "Big Fish"... sorry, but I believe a 5 is definitely in order. P.S. I didn’t find his "Planet Of The Apes" all that terrible either, far superior to some of the trash they pass off in theaters today as intelligent entertainment films. more
