What a beautiful album this is! It's a pity I wasn't around when it was released, way back in 1981... Singing "Siamo solo noi" back then must have had a unique flavor that has somewhat faded today. That's the problem: I'm not part of that "generation of disillusioned people who no longer have saints or heroes" and perhaps I will never fully immerse myself in the atmosphere of the time to completely understand this album.
This is undoubtedly one of Vasco's most beautiful albums; a few well-crafted tracks with a strong rock sound. It kicks off grandly with the eponymous "Siamo solo noi" on which not much needs to be said. An immortal track, often described as a generational anthem. A few chords and very strong phrases: "Siamo solo noi quelli che muoiono presto, quelli che però è lo stesso".
Next up is "Ieri ho sgozzato mio figlio", characterized by a strongly provocative text and hard sounds that verge on hard rock.
The following song, "Che ironia", is, in my opinion, the least successful; a humorous text, catchy music, but it departs from the rest of the album.
Then there's "Voglio andare al mare", a reggae track that is also provocative (talking about "women and sun" and "bare breasts") yet does not lose its rock essence.
Track five is "Brava", still today one of Vasco's most beautiful songs, which talks about a woman and her famous "logic of black stockings".
We move on to "Dimentichiamoci questa città", fast-paced and rhythmic, followed by "Incredibile romantica". A very sweet song, dedicated to an equally sweet woman. Who wouldn't dream of such a woman?
Closing the album is the slow and ironic "Valium", which has obviously sparked strong controversies. It would already appear scandalous today, imagine back then! It's impossible to remain impassive in front of these words: "100 gocce di valium per dormire del tutto, non sentire più niente, cancellare la mente e domani mattina non svegliarsi neanche". Try listening to it as a lullaby, I assure you the effect is excellent!
The last thing worth noting is the album cover: in its original version, it features a young, shouting, and disheveled Vasco in black and white. It's a shame it disappeared in the reprints...
"One of the angriest and damned albums of the 'Blasco,' and therefore also the most genuine!"
"'Siamo solo noi' has become an anthem and a cornerstone piece in live performances."
"Vasco is a man with the soul and impulses of a child... endowed with great sensitivity and poetry."
"'Siamo solo noi': this track is history, if it had been born outside of Italy... it would be considered a classic of world rock music."
"'Siamo solo noi' is the anthem of a generation of disrupted without saints or heroes."
"Vasco is an authentic artist, his music is communication, from nonsensical language to real love poems."
