The Doors L' America
"Jim Morrison and the Doors on the road" (56)
The strangest song on the album. It feels "out of place" and indeed it was written two years earlier when it was meant to be used in "Zabrinskie Point." The original title was supposed to be "Latin America," connecting to the lyrics that talk about the journey that "friendly strangers" take south of the border. The Doors had traveled to Mexico for what was supposed to be the country's first major Rock concert; they were set to perform at "La Plaza Monumental," the largest venue in the country, and they wanted to keep ticket prices low to allow everyone to attend. Unfortunately, on the same day, the first anniversary of the first major and, unfortunately, bloody student riot in Mexico City was being "celebrated," and they were forced to play in a small club for the wealthy (?!?). Morrison introduced his bandmates Ramon Manzarek, Roberto Krieger, and Juan Densmore and ... screw you all!
