January 30, 1969 - The last performance of the "Beatles" on the rooftop of "Apple Record," on that morning in the heart of the West End they were preparing for an eccentric live show with their latest songs, an idea that came to Paul McCartney a few days before.
So around noon, with the wind blowing at 50 km per hour, The Beatles appear, quite different from their last concert in '66 in San Francisco: the "Fab Four" show up with long beards, flowing hair, and shabby furs, testifying to their transformation not only in appearance but also musically.
Their new songs are harder and sharper than those the quartet used to play in the days of "Sgt. Pepper" and "Revolver," and without wasting time they kick off with "Get Back," followed by "Don't Let me Down" & "I've Got a Feeling." Meanwhile, the streets fill up and chaos erupts, the music stunning everyone and even stopping traffic.
After 42 minutes of concert, filmed by 10 cameras, the uniformed and helmeted Bobbies arrive, ordering everyone to immediately stop the performance. The band is shoved and dragged away while they were playing "Get Back" for the third time, with the "Mecca" saying: "You already played on the rooftops once before and you know mummy doesn't like it! Now she'll have you arrested!" Right after, Lennon adds ironically: "I'd like to say thank you on behalf of me and the boys; and I hope we've passed the audition!"
The performance of that day went down in history as the Beatles' last live show. Most of the 42 minutes on the rooftop would later be used commercially, in the film "Let It Be" and in the albums "Get Back" (unreleased) and "Let it Be."
