"Le voci di Nikolajewka" di Bepi De Marzi nell'esecuzione del Coro Marmolada di Venezia

Yesterday marked the anniversary of the battle of Nikolajewka. The end of the Italian anabasis in that Soviet territory which had been "invaded" under the command of the Nazi ally. A couple of years earlier, the Leader wanted a few thousand dead, back when he stabbed France in the back and during the disastrous invasion of Greece, when he was pulled from the Greek mud by the Fuhrer.
And he got around ninety-five thousand dead just in the Russian retreat, three hundred and twelve thousand throughout the entire conflict. Beyond his most optimistic forecasts.
Entire alpine valleys, provincial towns, islands, and neighborhoods saw a generation of boys wiped out, who had set off to conquer France, Greece, Yugoslavia, Ethiopia, and Libya.
But, after all, he made the trains run on time and drained the Pontine marshes, right?

Heitor Villa-Lobos "Suite Popular BrasileƱa" (Completa) Pablo De Giusto have you ever thought about what Bach would have written if he had been born in Brazil? It's certainly unthinkable, but Villa Lobos created a wonderful blend of samba and Bach, listen to the Bachianas Brasileiras. He was a great composer who elevated the guitar in the classical realm, although in a different guise from that of Segovia, his contemporary and "rival." Segovia gave the guitar a classical structure, placing it in a context from which it had always been excluded, demonstrating that when used appropriately, it could be an instrument on par with, and often superior to, the classical instruments used in an orchestra. Lobos, on his part, made it an extraordinary tool to combine the classical/academic world with the sounds and rhythms of Brazil, successfully mixing samba and minuets, forró, and chamber sonatas—a genius still not fully understood or, in any case, poorly promoted, and unjustly so. Listen to this long piece, where in typically Brazilian atmospheres, you'll find the strict classical rigor of using an instrument that is far from simple to play in such a manner. Not by chance are Villa Lobos's pieces authentic tour de force for those studying guitar, but what emerges is Music with a capital M... and here you'll hear at the end Chorino, perhaps his most beautiful piece for guitar along with Choros nr 1.
