Just out of curiosity... In the photo of your avatar... isn't that Chet Baker? No, because if it's not... gosh, he looks just like him!

I believe so.. In the bottom right, you can make out the mouthpiece of the trumpet.. 😉

It’s really him! One of the most beautiful shots I’ve ever seen. Reading his biography, I can glimpse redemption in this photo.

You're right, in this photo there's all the humanity of the star, his most beautiful and human side. I "discovered" Baker just before he died; I knew him, but jazz was still "terra incognita" for me. I wasn't fully immersed in it like I have been for the past 20 years, during which I've learned to savor its nuances and flavors. Back then, my jazz was that of Weather Report, Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc., meaning it was closer to rock. But it was the key that opened a wonderful world full of sounds from immense people... P.S. I take this opportunity to "deamarti"; I thought I'd done it before, but...

For me too, Chet was one of the first forays into that world. Essential.

My first two were a collection of his and Kind of Blue by Davis.

My first Davis is Water Babies; I bought it because I intended to get into jazz, but at 16 and not understanding much of the genre, I made a choice that wasn’t wrong, but definitely not the right one. Although released in '75, it consists of recordings from at least a decade earlier—tracks discarded from very important albums, but still discarded. Of course, any “discard” from Davis is generally superior to a lot of other stuff, so much so that listening to it again today gives it a different depth. Just to be clear, it’s markedly better than The Man With the Horn.

Nothing much, just a sense of belonging in the way that it makes me happy.
